NYCFI - Associate, Principal Strategic Investments
Position Summary
This position is in the Corporate Development Division and will be part of the Principal Strategic Investments department (“PSI”). The individual will work closely with the PSI team to support sourcing, underwriting, and executing mergers & acquisitions, private equity investments and business development opportunities for Mitsui & Co. (U.S.A.), Inc. (Mitsui USA) and Mitsui & Co., Ltd (Mitsui HQ) across various industries. The position will play an important role in working with other members of the Corporate Development Division to manage and add value. Reports to the General Manager of Principal Strategic Investments.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Closely work with PSI team members on performing financial and business due diligence of target companies by preparing financial/ discounted cash flow models, comparable company analysis, financial and business reviews. Also interact with senior management teams throughout the due diligence and underwriting process.
- Participate in deal negotiations and structuring, legal documentation, and other related external and internal discussions.
- Conduct market research and prepare related analysis and presentations to support PSI’s origination efforts for equity investment and other business development opportunities.
- Support the internal approval process for transactions by preparing investment committee memos and investment return analysis and facilitating internal and external communications.
- Works with other members in Mitsui & Mitsui Group Companies or with co-investors to add value to portfolio companies.
- Participates in projects as requested by General Manager.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Training and Experience
Knowledge Areas:
- Undergraduate degree
- Strong knowledge of corporate finance and accounting
- Understanding of Private Equity, Venture Capital, and Mergers & Acquisitions preferred but not required
- Willingness and capability to explore opportunities as one of the team members.
Technical / Communication Skills:
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Product Suite, specifically Excel-based financial modeling, PowerPoint presentation and Word documentation.
- Experience with Bloomberg and/or Capital IQ database systems preferred but not required
- Strong external and internal communication skills (the business language of Mitsui USA is English; Japanese language skills are not required at all).
- High degree of organizational and analytical skills.
- Ability to work with project team smoothly and effectively.
- Ability to adapt to a cross-cultural environment.
Experience:
- Minimum five (5) years working experience in financial services, corporate finance, business & corporate development, finance & accounting, management consulting or equivalent
