Packaging Engineer Intern
SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Packaging Engineering Intern will support the Packaging Engineering team with various tasks related to the design, development, and maintenance of medical device package systems, production packaging processes, and production packaging equipment. This role will provide an opportunity for students to learn about the medical device packaging industry and gain hands-on experience with packaging equipment, processes, and materials.
MAIN JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Assist with the creation, development, and implementation of package designs and/or processes
• Provide day-to-day support for production equipment and assist with identifying and resolving issues
• Assist with project management tasks for assigned packaging process changes, packaging designs, and new packaging equipment implementation
• Assist with package testing while following industry standards
• Collaborate with team members to design and procure equipment and materials necessary for product launch and/or sustainability projects
• Assist with process validation (IQ, OQ, PQ) and risk identification efforts
• Assist with troubleshooting techniques for production challenges and provide recommendations for resolution
• Assist with creating technical documents, rationales, and reports as required
• Communicate project status and packaging activities with team members
• Provide packaging support for new business opportunities
• Learn about new packaging tools, technology, and methodologies including cost estimates and return on investment for equipment design or packaging process changes
• Assist with obtaining the material, equipment, etc., required to perform tasks from various sources
• Follow documented specification and/or written/verbal instructions for technical tasks
• Assist with coordinating trial runs of packaging processes, sample preparation, etc.
• Establish positive relationships with vendors and learn about vendor’s capabilities and troubleshooting knowledge
• Provide support to technical employees and operators
• Assist with providing formal training to production personnel on existing and new processes
• Follow all GMP and SOP’s as defined by Viant policies, practices and procedures to ensure that FDA and ISO regulations and quality standards are met
Education:
• Enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master’s degree program in Packaging Engineering or related field
Experience:
• No prior experience required
Skills/Competencies:
• Interest in the Medical Device Packaging industry
• Strong problem-solving skills
• General understanding of manufacturing processes and quality standards
• Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills
• Basic ability to read and understand engineering drawings, including dimensions, tolerances, and schematics
• Basic computer skills
Physical Requirements:
• No travel required
• Work in an office environment with varying amounts of walking, sitting, standing, twisting, and turning
• Periodically lift or carry up to 25lbs.
• No unusual or excessive physical demands
