VP of Compliance - Regulatory
Position: Vice President of Compliance (Regulatory)
Hours of Work:
To the extent permitted by law, the Company may, in its sole discretion, change the work schedule to address business needs. Work hours will depend on the business hours of the time zone serviced.
In This Role, You Will…
Report to the Senior Vice President, Compliance and assist the Compliance Department in the oversight of the Company’s regulatory compliance program to ensure the Company is in compliance with all relevant laws and regulations and Company policies and procedures.
Supervisory Responsibility: Compliance Officer
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop strong working knowledge of Mariner’s products, services, processes and strategies.
- Maintain subject matter expertise of existing federal and state consumer credit laws and regulations, including ECOA/Regulation B, TILA/Regulation Z, FCRA/Regulation V, EFTA/Regulation E, UDAP, UDAAP, and state privacy and servicing and debt collection laws.
- Lead in development of compliance monitoring and testing program, provide reviews and updates for continuous improvement.
- Conduct regular compliance audits and risk assessment to identify and mitigate compliance risks and provide guidance on controls.
- Keeps abreast of regulatory changes, considers operational impact, and facilities implementation of new changes.
- Develop and implement comprehensive strategies to ensure Mariner’s consumer marketing programs are in full compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.
- Ensure all marketing material, campaigns, and communication are reviewed and approved by required parties before release. Work closely with Legal, Marketing, and other relevant departments to ensure integrated and compliant business strategies.
- Create, maintain, and enforce compliance policies and procedures, including policies and procedures related to Mariner’s consumer marketing activities.
- Cultivate strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory agencies, and industry associations. Serve as a trusted advisor on compliance matters and represent the organization in relevant meetings and work groups.
- Assist in developing department goals and budget and ensure department goals are met while adhering to approved budgets. Proactively identify and generate ideas and opportunities to advance the goals of the department and company.
- Monitor and report on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) as requested. Be responsible for achievement of planned goals, projects, and deliverables.
- Provide regular feedback and performance reviews to individual team members. Promote the professional growth and development of individual team members through mentorship, knowledge sharing, and continuing education.
- Assist in responding to regulatory examinations, internal audits, and consumer complaints.
- May perform additional functions depending on market demand and staffing in order to provide consistent quality customer service from the Compliance Department.
Required Qualifications:
- Ten (10) years of experience in compliance within the consumer financial services industry with expert-level understanding of applicable regulatory requirements.
- Five (5) years of experience in overseeing, developing, and implementing compliance policies and risk assessments.
- Demonstrated proficiency in leading through change, executing on major initiatives, and leading cross-departmental work.
- Highly-motivated self-starter with strong work ethic, exceptional attention to detail, and ability to support multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment; ability to multi-task, change direction, effectively prioritize, and meet deadlines with both local and remote staff.
- Team player, with an ability to work both independently and collaboratively with teams across and at all levels of the organization.
- Outstanding interpersonal, problem solving and organizational skills.
- Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication and negotiation skills and ability to provide clear, concise and practical advice to other team members in a timely manner.
- Self-motivation and a willingness to take ownership of projects, executing with accountability and integrity.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM) accreditation.
- Multi-state business environment experience.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to move about. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to twenty (20) pounds.
