Director of Finance Position Summary:
As a key member of the Finance leadership team, the Director of Finance oversees the operations of the accounting functions and maximizes the return on financial assets by establishing financial policies, procedures, controls and reporting systems.
Director of Finance Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage the accuracy and productivity of all day-to-day accounting functions for multiple entities.
- Areas of responsibility include financial reporting, cash management, general accounting, accounts payable and payroll.
- Directs the Finance Department in creating timely and accurate financial statements.
- Oversees general accounting, accounts payable, and payroll. Provides leadership to the employees in these areas.
- Lead all activities for external audits and tax return reporting.

- Directs the Finance and Grants team in the monthly financial statement close process. Ensures that financial statements are accurately stated and that financial statements are issued on a timely basis.
- Prepares analysis and information reports to be presented to management and the Board of Directors on a monthly basis.
- Reviews and approves reconciliations of balance sheet accounts in the general ledger and supervises the monthly closure of the general leader and preparation of program financial statements.
- Ensures legal and regulatory compliance for all accounting and financial reporting functions. Ensures all accounting is in adherence to generally accepted accounting principles.
- Prepare and maintain agency cash flow reports. Responsible for cash management and ensuring that cash flow is sufficient to cover expenses.
- Responsible for banking administration and managing users and controls on multiple banking platforms.
- Responsible for debt covenant reporting and monitoring performance to ensure that covenants are met.
- Prepares financial analysis of income statements and balance sheets.
- Chairs monthly meetings with each division’s Vice President and Directors to review financial performance and discuss future developments and any issues.
- Administration of accounting system, reimbursement system and credit card platform. Serve as main contact for these vendors.
- Serve as main contact with the accounting firm. Lead all activities for external audits and tax return reporting.
- Prepare the purchase accounting for potential future acquisitions and assist in on-boarding.
- Meet regularly with assigned staff to ensure that work is being done timely, accurately and efficiently. Set and monitor annual goals.
- Carry out agency policies and procedures while participating in daily routine of the agency.
- Stays up-to-date on payroll processing systems and changes in wage and tax laws.
- Attend and participate in leadership meetings, staff meetings, training sessions, special projects and professional development opportunities as required.
- Maintains effective professional relationships both internally and externally with other service providers and community organizations, to support clients and program goals.
- Perform other duties, responsibilities and related tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting and five years’ experience managing an accounting function in a medium sized organization, preferably in a fund / and or not-for-profit sector.
- CPA preferred
- Prior auditing and payroll management experience required
- Knowledge of well-defined accounting office practices and procedures.
- Must be proficient in report writing, word processing, database management, and spreadsheet applications.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Must possess excellent organization skills.
- Valid NYS driver’s license and access to reliable transportation

Salary: $85,000 to $150,000
