Position Summary:
The Employment Support Specialist will provide support for all aspects of job/vocational development, placement, pre-vocational development, training and ensure that consumers access their employment/vocational goals and remain employed in the competitive job market for the Blind/visually impaired and Deaf/hard of hearing populations. This position will perform contract management and oversight for all employment services and assist with / manage vocational services as directed by supervisor.
Job Responsibilities:
- Provide support to the pre-vocational and employment programs for the Blind, visually impaired, Deaf, and hard of hearing.
- Maintains relationships with consumers, agency staff, employers, community agencies, schools and funding sources (ACCES-VR, Commission for the Blind) and its representatives to support the operation of Deaf and Blind Services.
- Provide support for pre-employment and employment services to consumers
- Collaborate with ACCES-VR, Commission for the Blind, OCM BOCES, Office for People with
Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD), and area schools to promote employment of individuals who are Deaf, hard of hearing, blind or visually impaired within our community.
- Provide case management services to consumers.
- Perform and monitor all aspects of contract management and reporting for Blind and Deaf Services.
- Complete accurate and timely statistical and program reports for AURORA and sponsoring agencies.
- Maintain appropriate case records.
- Participate in community events and organizations that promote opportunities for individuals who are Blind, Visually Impaired, Deaf/Hard of Hearing
- Other assignments which are mutually agreed upon by Director of Deaf Services and employee.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree with one year related experience, or Associates’ Degree with three years’ experience, or the equivalent of specialized training/experience.
- Ability to communicate proficiently in American Sign Language (ASL) and culturally competent in Deaf and Hard of Hearing Culture and Language
- Specific training/education in the field of vocational rehabilitation.
- Must have a valid New York State driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.
Salary Range: $48,500-$52,000
