Areas of Responsibility and Job Requirements

 

The Corporate Staff Accountant is responsible for recording, reconciling, and ensuring the accuracy of union and non-union payroll transactions across multiple entities. This role supports financial accounting functions, assists with month-end close processes, and serves as a key liaison between the payroll and property accounting teams. The ideal candidate has a strong accounting foundation, attention to detail, and experience in payroll-related financial reporting.

 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Payroll Accounting & Reconciliation:

  • Record and reconcile payroll transactions for union and non-union employees, ensuring accurate allocation across properties and departments.
  • Reconcile payroll-related general ledger accounts, including wages, benefits, taxes, and deductions.
  • Prepare and post payroll journal entries, ensuring accuracy in payroll-related accruals.
  • Assist in processing and tracking union payroll, ensuring compliance with labor agreements.
  • Review payroll reports and resolve discrepancies in collaboration with the payroll team.

Financial Accounting & Reporting:

  • Support month-end close by preparing payroll-related journal entries and reconciliations.
  • Analyze payroll expenses, providing variance explanations and financial insights.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and company policies related to payroll accounting.
  • Assist with payroll-related audit requests and tax filings.

Liaison with Property Accounting Team:

  • Collaborate with property accountants to ensure proper payroll cost allocation.
  • Support payroll-related inquiries from the accounting and property management teams.
  • Work with HR and payroll processing teams to resolve discrepancies and improve processes.

 

Minimum Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

 

Minimum Years of Experience Required:

  • 3 years of accounting experience, with a focus on payroll accounting preferred.
  • Experience working with union payroll and collective bargaining agreements.

 

Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong finance, accounting, or legal background preferred
  • Familiarity with payroll processing systems (e.g., ADP, Paylocity, Workday) and accounting software (e.g., Yardi, SAP, MRI).
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and payroll-related accounting principles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, and data analysis).
  • Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving abilities.

 

Competencies/Essential Job Functions:

This position consists mainly of light physical work. The position may require exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. The role involves sitting most of the time.

 

The incumbent is required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy and thoroughness of the work assigned or to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data, reviewing data, view computer screens for extended periods of time, extensive reading, etc.

  • This role frequently requires the incumbent to grasp, engage in repetitive movements with the wrist, hands, and fingers, typing for extended period of time.

 

  • The role also requires incumbent to talk and hear, expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken work and the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make distinctions in sound.

 

 

Work Environment

The incumbent may occasionally be subject to noise sufficient to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the noise.
