Assistant Director of Social Services

Areas of Responsibility and Job Requirements:
Provides support and referral services to “at risk” population in subsidized multifamily properties. These services promote and enable independent living and aging in place to prevent premature or unnecessary institutionalization. Provide assessment, advocacy, brief counseling, eviction prevention, referral services, collaborate with other management depts to best assist residents. Perform community outreach and education. Perform community outreach and education. Oversee Social Service staff. Support contracted Community Based Organizations (CBO’s) on-site throughout portfolio. The Assistant Director will report to the Director of Social Services..
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Focus on Quality Assurance of internal Supportive Housing operations
- Provide management and clinical assistance to third-party Supportive Housing Staff and Residents
- Supervision of 2 Park and NJ Teams staff members at our Manhattan corporate headquarters and Affordable properties in New Jersey
- Oversee Special Projects – e.g., Questionnaires for Renovation Preparations,
- Supportive Housing Orientations, Rent Increase initiatives, Case management as needed
- Assist in coordination of Professional Development trainings for social services team members and property management team as requested
- Assist in coordinating support to Social Service teams as needed such as problem solving, guidance, clinical supervision and training.
- Assist in developing Monthly Reporting regarding social services delivered to residents
- Collaborate with members of the community and other stakeholders to identify the types of programs and services that are needed
- Design and oversee programs to meet the needs of the target audience or community
- Provide guidance and feedback to all staff and resolve complex problems
- Establish methods to gather information about the impact of their programs
- Analyze data to determine the effectiveness of programs
- Evaluate and implement improvements to programs, services and systems
- Liaise directly with residents as well as internal departments (property management, leasing, compliance, etc.) and to resolve issues (e.g., lease renewals, re-certifications, lease signings, etc.).
- Perform audits and serve as the quality assurance lead for all HUD requirements pertaining to social services.
Minimum Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or related field is required.
- Master's degree in business administration, social work, or related field is preferred.
Minimum Years of Experience Required:
- 5+ years of industry experience.
- 5+ years in a leadership role within social services is preferred.
Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Proven management skills.
- Prior experience managing a team
- Prior experience supervising a team.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite including Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Experience with Charity Tracker or other databases a plus
- Strong customer service background
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Proven experience in program management and development within residential tenant environment is preferred.
- Ability to proactively anticipate and solve problems
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail are preferred
- LMSW or LCSW certification is preferred.
- Experience working with a supportive tenant base (e.g. homeless, blind, hearing impaired, mental illness, etc.).
Competencies/Essential Job Functions:
This position consists mainly of medium physical work. The position may require exertion of up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
The incumbent is required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned or to make general observations of facilities or structures (i.e., inspections, reports, etc.).
- This role frequently requires the incumbent to reach objects, engage in repetitive movements with the wrist, hands, and fingers by typing; feel and touch objects with fingers, palm, and hands.
- The role also requires incumbent to talk and hear, expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken work and the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make distinctions in sound.
- The role occasionally requires the incumbent to stand for sustained periods of time; walking and/or moving about on foot to accomplish tasks particularly for long distances; moving from one work site to another or occasionally in narrow aisles, hallways, or passageways; expected to climb, stoop, push, pull, grasp, lift up to 50 pounds
Work Environment:
This position will be occasionally subject to both indoor and outdoor environmental conditions and temperature changes (extreme cold or extreme heat) with or without effective protection from the weather.
The incumbent may occasionally be subject to noise sufficient to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the noise.
