R&D ENGINEERING INTERN

Our Research and Development Department’s Internship Program provides a select group of college students in their junior or senior year an opportunity to experience Engineering for a minimum of 12 weeks. This is a paid internship based out of our Torrance, California location that is structured to allow interns to take on a great deal of responsibility quickly and gain immediate exposure to the Research and Development Department.
The Intern will assist the Design Engineering team in the update and maintenance of legacy product drawings. The Intern will support this activity by utilizing 3D CAD Modeling, drafting with GD&T, and research into legacy product design requirements. A successful candidate will learn by interacting with other department personnel and plant engineering. The Intern may also be tasked with assisting in specific areas of the development of new products.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
DOCUMENTATION
- Preparation and modification of engineering drawings using both manual and computer-aided systems such as SolidWorks.
- Create schedules, flow charts, spreadsheets, and PowerPoint presentations
- Develops and/or updates specifications.
- Updates and/or redrawing of legacy product drawings
- Develops and/or sustains engineering calculation sheets.
CAD
- Design basic parts for use in SolidWorks
- Make basic modifications to CAD Designs in SolidWorks
- Assemble and manipulate components in an assembly
ANALYSIS
- Miscellaneous technical data generation, calculations and analysis; available tools include PC engineering workstations. These tasks may involve creating new Excel spread sheets or modifying existing files.
- Performs data entry and analysis, in MS Excel or MS Access, for trending in order to manage related action items.
- Analysis of designs to meet design and performance requirements
- Design test plans to verify and validate product parameters
PROCESSES
- Assist team in identifying process improvements
- Support the quoting of equipment, fixtures, test coupons.
- Other duties may be assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of second year in an undergraduate engineering degree program. Preferably Mechanical Engineering
- Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA
- Completion of college level courses in mechanical testing, design, and material properties
- MS Office (Excel / Word), MS PowerPoint mid to expert level
- Proficient with 3D CAD modeling, SolidWorks preferred
- Knowledgeable in common drafting practices
- Strong organizational skills

Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have intermediate computer skills and have intermediate to advanced skills with Spreadsheet and Word Processing software, and be proficient with 3D CAD modeling using SolidWorks 2012 or newer

Ability to perform basic mathematical functions, (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) Ability to perform these operations using units such as force, torque, weight measurement, volume, and distance.
Reasoning Ability

Hourly Rate: $22.00
