Job Summary: The Project Manager I is responsible to be the controlling contractor on project sites and serve as a point-of-contact for clients. Position ensures that assigned projects are successful by working with clients, contractors, partners, and internal team in following standards, practices, and schedules that result in value-added projects being on-time, on budget and ultimately forming lasting relationships with our customers.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Creates and successfully maintains project budget and schedule.
  • Successfully coordinates on-site project team, contractors, vendors, schedule, owner correspondence, client-relations, drawing management, approvals, materials, and deliveries.
  • QA/QC of construction materials and installation. Ensures purpose and content of the Construction Quality Management System Plan. 
  • Ensures and maintains culture of safety on project site.
  • Productively communicates and regularly interacts with owner.
  • Attends and runs project meetings with necessary stakeholders and/or project team.
  • Works with architect and contractors to compile pricing and estimates for submittal to owner.
  • Ensures successful management of project by reviewing submittals, change orders, and RFIs for conformance and ensuring budgets are within project scope and necessary invoicing takes place.
  • Ensures necessary permits are obtained from corresponding agencies.
  • Work with owner and facility staff to ensure understanding of construction process, project progress, timelines, schedule, and budget.
  • Follows internal process, policies, and delivery methods for construction projects.
  • Effectively communicates and works with internal team including site superintendent, project director, and project coordinator.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Problem Solving:

Problems and solutions are unique and unpredictable, but are similar to those previously encountered. Solutions require judgment such as setting priorities, evaluating results, coordinating with others and/or referring to a selection of documented choices determined by policies and/or procedures.

Supervision Required:

Performs tasks under general supervision, which is present to establish general objectives relative to a specific project or procedure. Supervision is provided “as-needed.”

Decision-Making Impact:

Independent judgment is required to analyze problems and perform needs assessments as well as select and implement the most appropriate solution with frequent discussion/contact with supervisor. Uses judgment in adapting broad guidelines to achieve desired result. Regular exercise of independent judgment is used. Makes recommendations that affect policies, procedures, and practices. Refers exceptions to policies and procedures to the supervisor. Recommendations to create efficiencies within work procedures, policies, and practices are always encouraged. 

Decision-making impacts outside department/multiple departments.

Work Complexity:

Tasks and responsibilities required integration of diverse functional areas and may involve many different variables.Work is substantially complex and varied, and requires the interpretation of technical and detailed guidelines, policies, and procedures in combination.

Time Management

This position is expected to work in the office, when not out on site.If work from home is needed, it must be approved by manager.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

May be required to mentor Project Engineer.


Qualifications (Education, Experience, and Licenses/Certifications required):

  • 5+ years in industry-related project management role.
  • Associates or bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, architecture, or related field is preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Must have ability to influence and convey project expectations and updates to project team, partners, and clients. 
  • Ability to travel to project sites.
    • Must hold valid driver’s license
  • Ability to attend project-related meetings outside of normal business hours.
  • Ability to lead a cohesive project team.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office products.
  • Experience in estimating and project management software.
  • Proven ability to maintain excellent integrity and ethical standards within role.


Physical Requirements:

  • Position requires regular sitting, standing, walking, talking, hearing, and vision.
  • Position frequently requires climbing/balancing and reaching with arms and hands.
  • Position occasionally requires kneeling and crouching and the ability to lift and carry over 20 lbs.
