The DV Pet Program - Pet Companion Specialist at A New Leaf is a key role dedicated to supporting the well-being of pets in families impacted by domestic violence. This position involves providing care and companionship to animals within the DV Pet Program, ensuring their safety and comfort during their stay. The specialist will also assist in coordinating pet services, such as veterinary care and pet supplies, while working closely with clients to support the human-animal bond as they navigate challenging times. This role is essential in helping families and their pets find stability and security in a supportive environment.
Hourly Pay Rate: $20
Location: Mesa, AZ

Schedule: Thursday and Friday; 8am-6pm; Saturday; 8am-5pm
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- High School or GED required
Experience:
- Animal care is strongly preferred
- Experience working with domestic violence, homeless, or economically disadvantaged populations is preferred.
- Knowledge of community resources is preferred.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Recognize the impact of domestic violence, human trafficking, and trauma, and respond appropriately to crisis events.
- Collaborates closely with partners in the community, vet hospitals, rescues, etc.
- Conducts intakes on new animals, asses medical needs, schedule vet visits, and coordinates with staff.
- Create a new behavioral assessment for all new animal intakes.
- Maintains a productive relationship with the pet parent.
- Create and maintain enrichment, basic care, and the needs of the animals.
- Assist with the animal needs; clean kennel/litter, clean the dog yard, train, and groom.
- Form and build long-term partnerships with other rescues, vet clinics, etc.
- Pick up our monthly donations from Philanthropy, and make sure we have a continued partnership with donors.
- Order supplies as needed, exit box materials.
- Complete accurate documentation in various databases and all program paperwork in a timely, correct, and thorough manner.
- Attend meetings; weekly- case review meetings, program meetings, and development team meetings.
- Work with our partner rescue in the circumstance there are surrenders, using their temporary care program, and other resources.
- Transport animals in a company van.
Compliance/Requirements:
- Class One Fingerprint Clearance Card
- Valid Driver’s License with reliable transportation
- Current Auto Liability Insurance
- 39-Month Motor Vehicle Record
- Must Be At Least 21 Years of Age
