Overnight Shelter Advocate - Autumn House
A New Leaf's Autumn House is seeking a dedicated Overnight Shelter Advocate to provide essential support to individuals and families in our 24-hour crisis shelter for survivors of domestic violence. This role focuses on ensuring the safety and well-being of residents during overnight hours, providing crisis intervention, emotional support, and assistance with immediate needs. The Overnight Shelter Advocate will monitor shelter security, complete necessary documentation, and foster a calm, supportive environment for those in our care. QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- High School or GED required
- Associate or Bachelor’s Degree, preferred
Experience:
- Experience working with domestic violence, homelessness or economically disadvantaged population preferred.
- Knowledge of and/or experience with trauma informed practices required.
- Knowledge of community resources.
- Verbally bilingual in Spanish, preferred
Responsibilities:
- Role model appropriate behaviors to clients in the shelter, at all times, utilizing trauma informed principles and practices.
- Provide crisis intervention, domestic violence information, and resources and referral services to callers/clients at the shelter.
- Perform screenings, lethality assessments, and basic needs assessments for potential clients according to procedure. Assist with the introduction of program and facility orientation to incoming clients. Assist with client intake/exit paperwork as needed.
- Provide supportive services to clients in shelter and assist case managers with client needs.
- Establish/maintain client files, documentation and requesting paperwork; filing all documentation in a timely, accurate and thorough manner.
- Be responsible for issues relating to admission and discharge, in conjunction with the program’s definition and policies as relevant to program/client needs.
- Access community resources to support the coordination of services for clients.
- Participate in required supervision on a regular basis as required by A New Leaf policy.
- Be available and responsive to families and individuals during hours on shift.
- Maintain ability to drive agency passenger van to transport clients and complete other duties, as needed and/or drive personal vehicle to conduct program business (mail runs, grocery shopping, etc.).
Compliance:
- Valid Driver’s License with reliable transportation, required
- Current Auto Liability Insurance, required
- 39 Month Motor Vehicle Record, required
- Be at least 21-years of Age
- Must be able to obtain Class One Fingerprint Clearance Card immediately upon hire (if there are any uncertainties whether an applicant may have to go through an appeal process; they are encouraged to complete that process prior to applying as an invalid card will result in termination of employment)
