Sr Relationship Portfolio Manager

SUMMARY OF THE JOB:
Reporting to the Senior Vice President/Commercial Team Lead and assigned to a commercial lending production office, the Senior Relationship Portfolio Manager is responsible for managing assigned relationships in the C&I portfolio in order to minimize risk, validate appropriateness of risk ratings, maximize cross selling opportunities into our existing customer base on a direct basis and via referrals to other areas of the bank such as Cash Management, and to assure timely administration of issues such as maturing lines of credit, receipt of financial statements, and loan documentation follow up.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Responsible for the ongoing management of assigned customer relationships in the C&I portfolio.
• Works with production office Team Lead and Relationship Managers in customer communications and facilitating the collection of financial and related information in order to facilitate underwriting and decisioning of new loan requests
• Analyzes, provide recommendations, process, and obtain appropriate approvals for various borrower requests.
• Facilitate the tracking and timely renewal of loans and lines of credit through early customer notification of impending maturity dates and obtaining the required financial information to underwrite renewals and annual reviews
• Utilizing experience and independent analysis, the Sr. Relationship Portfolio Manager will be expected to make independent recommendations concerning loan structure, pricing, and appropriate risk ratings based on loan policies and risk rating definitions.
• Ensure that the overall portfolio risk ratings are current by conducting annual relationship reviews in a timely manner and ensuring that financial information, and file documentation is kept current and in conformity with covenant requirements, if applicable.
• Communicate directly with borrowers, as well as borrower’s accountants and attorneys, as necessary to assure adequacy of information needed to complete analysis and underwriting efforts.
• The incumbent will be fully engaged in the commercial origination and operating system and will utilize this system in the front loading of financial information for new Borrowers and Customers.
• Conveys final recommendations on structure, pricing, etc. in order to submit credit approval write-ups to the appropriate level of credit approval authority.
• Prepares Green Light Memo for submission to the appropriate level of credit approval authority.
• Assists with problem credit resolution by working with Special Assets, and legal counsel as appropriate.
• Continually researches industry trends and events which may impact the creditworthiness of borrowers and utilizes that information as a factor in making real time risk rating assessments.
• Participates in prospect calls with office Team Lead and Relationship Managers and maintains regular contact with existing customers.
• Maximizes cross sell opportunities from our existing customer base by referral to other appropriate areas of the bank such as Cash Management or Investment Services.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Ongoing portfolio management responsibilities in the C&I portfolio:
- Independently reviews, documents, and recommends actions for various borrower requests from both new and existing customers. Acts as the key contact for new and existing customers in order to insure a positive customer experience. Maintains quality loan portfolio by monitoring and resolving delinquencies. Conducts timely risk rating reviews and recommendations for risk rating changes. Research and Analysis
- Performs research and thoroughly investigates all available sources of credit information to ensure accuracy and completeness of credit approval vehicles and credit file documentation. Independently performs extensive narrative analyses of financial information. Supervises work of credit analysts assigned to portfolio accounts. Provides guidance to the loan servicers on operational/documentation issues. Supervises credit analysts in the underwriting of new business and partners with Team Lead and Relationship Managers in structuring of loan transactions. Performs annual reviews and/or special projects for the C&I portfolio and prepares the Green Light Memo for new and existing customers. Independent Judgment
- Utilizes prudent, independent judgment, gained through work experience and formal training, to make prudent assessments of risk in both proposed transactions and in the existing portfolio. Lead Capacity
- Provides guidance to less seasoned Credit Officer/Portfolio Managers, Credit Analysts and Loan Servicers to insure proper presentation of financial data and management of collateral and documentation related issues.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration or relevant field is preferred or equivalent work experience.
- 10+ years of analytical/underwriting experience, with development or supervisory responsibility of junior analysts or underwriters.
- Thorough knowledge of existing loan policies, all aspects of financial statement analysis, and industry best practices in risk assessment and management.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and a high level of proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel
