Job Summary: 
The Sr. Systems Engineer is responsible for assisting in technical design, planning, implementation, and the highest level of performance tuning and recovery procedures for mission-critical enterprise systems. Serves as a technical expert in system administration for complex operating systems and network platforms. Investigates and analyzes the feasibility of system requirements and develops system specifications. Identifies methods, solutions, and provides project leadership and management to provide a high level of service and stable operation of the organization’s overall IT infrastructure. 

 

Essential Duties and Other Responsibilities: 

  • Proactively monitor, manage, and maintain infrastructure environment to include but not limited to Servers, Network, Security, VMware, Cisco, and Cloud Platforms.
  • Manage and set priorities for the design, maintenance, development, and evaluation of all infrastructure platforms, including LANs, WANs, Internet, intranet, security, wireless implementations, and so on.
  • Design and implement short- and long-term strategic plans to ensure infrastructure capacity meets existing and future business requirements. 
  • Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, and associated training plans for infrastructure administration and management. 
  • Develops procedures and solutions to maintain security and protect systems from unauthorized use, acts of nature, and user abuse. 
  • Participate in the development of IT strategies in collaboration with ITM leadership. Define hardware and software standards in conjunction with owners and stakeholders. 
  • Test network and server performance and provide network performance statistics and reporting. 
  • Conduct research and make recommendations on products, services, protocols, and standards in support of all infrastructure procurement and development efforts. 
  • Establish and maintain regular written and in-person communications with the organization’s executives, decision-makers, stakeholders, department heads, and end-users regarding related infrastructure activities. 
  • Assist with the planning and deployment of infrastructure security measures. 
  • IT asset management, including maintenance of component inventory and related documentation. 
  • Supervises staff including hiring, training, performance reviews, mentoring, and disciplining.
  • May guide or provide work direction to technical staff, contract staff, and/or student employees. Determines appropriate coverage for all hours of operation. 
 
 

Education and Experience 

  • Degree in computer science, or software engineering, preferred
  • 7 years of applicable work experience, including all of the following, required:
    • Experience with systems planning, security principles, and general software management best practices.
    • Managing servers virtualization technologies like VMWare (preferred), Server/ESX or Microsoft HyperV/Virtual Server Microsoft Server Management.
    • Microsoft Active Directory/LDAP Management, user and group policy design and configuration.
    • Experience in Entra ID (Azure AD)\Microsoft 365 administration.
  • LAN Routing and Switching design, configuration, and troubleshooting (VLANs, IP Subnetting, 802.1Q trunks), preferred.
  • Excellent project management skills, excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate ideas in both technical and user-friendly language.
  • Highly organized and have the ability to manage projects of varying length.
  • Positive, self-motivated individual who can complete tasks independently
  • Strong level of attention to detail.
  • Analytical and creative problem-solving abilities.
  • Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Strong customer service orientation in a team-oriented and collaborative environment. 

Working location/hours/travel:

  • 100% Remote
  • Monday - Friday, with standard east coast business hours
  • Occasional server maintenance outside of regular business hours 
  • Travel to potential sites as needed, both domestic and international, occasionally
