Supervisor, Accessioning Floor - Investigator Support Services

Job Summary
The Supervisor, Accessioning Floor is responsible for overseeing daily operations on the accessioning floor of ISS. These activities include, but are not limited to, specimen receipt and registration, shipment to partner laboratories, query initiation, and requisition QC.
Schedule: Tuesday-Saturday
Essential Duties and Other Responsibilities
· Perform supervision of the staff performing breakdown, receipt and registration, and shipment preparation
· Coordinate work schedules of the accessioning floor staff
· Work cooperatively with the Biorepository Services leadership to ensure success for both teams
· Ensure the efficient and timely processing of samples to allow for on-time delivery to partner laboratories
· Promote a culture of excellence among the team
· Serve as primary escalation point for issues pertaining to the accessioning floor
· Identify opportunities for process improvement and work with management to implement
· Be proficient in the tasks for the accessioning floor
· Problem resolution
· Assist with Standard Operating Procedure development and revision
· Other duties as designated
Accessioning Floor Duties:
· Complete breakdown process
· Sample receipt
· Complete accessioning/registration
· Query initiation
· Prepare samples for laboratories (labeling)
· Ship outbound UPS/FedEx/DHL/Marken, Etc.
· Prepare samples for courier pick-up
· Prepare samples for onsite sample processing
· Generate manifests
· Requisition QC
Education/Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); 5-year minimum related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. >6 months sample handling experience is required. Must possess excellent organizational and interpersonal skills and be highly adaptive. Must have excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. Laboratory work experience preferred.
Language Ability
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Math Ability
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to
apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in standardized situations or situations where only limited standardization exists.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Certificates and Licenses
Medical Laboratory Technician Certification (ASCP) preferred.
Six Sigma Certification preferred.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Directly supervises small to mid-size team. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Work Environment
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee is frequently required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. Exposure to dry ice and cold. Must handle biological specimens.
