Summary 

The Global Sustainability & ESG Director will play a key role in overseeing and encouraging the implementation of various sustainability policies, with responsibility for strategic and operational planning, progress tracking and reporting, budgeting and forecasting, recommending resource allocations, and evaluating dependencies, impacts, risks, and opportunities in order to benefit energy, economic, environmental, and social sustainability both within and outside the company. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Under the direction of the VP, Legal, the Global Sustainability & ESG Director will develop LabConnect’s Sustainability Plan and supporting initiatives to ensure sustainability initiatives are properly implemented, working to establish the company as a recognized global leader in sustainability.  
  • Manages external environmental, social, and governance (ESG) reporting and disclosure activities and ensures means to increase information relevance and quality with the aim of positively impacting the company value, investor standings, brand and employer value proposition.  
  • Leads the annual ESG Report preparation including information and data gathering, content development and external assurance. Ensures alignment with ESG disclosure requirements and best practices. Identifies potential challenges and proactively manages them to ensure on time and quality deliverables.  
  • Prepares responses to inquiries from relevant ESG rating agencies and other organizations.  
  • Point of contact for internal inquiries regarding annual ESG performance data and information. Effectively supports relevant functions with ESG performance information. 
  • Continuously works toward improving the ESG reporting processes and related internal control environment to ensure ESG data reliability and accuracy. Works closely with functions and business units to implement robust, audit-proof reporting processes and internal controls. 
  • Influences stakeholders across various levels of the organization as well as in different functions and business units to achieve sustainability initiatives.  
  • Collaborate closely with the business and key internal leaders, data owners, technical functions, internal audit and external assurance providers to maintain a well-controlled, standardized internal reporting processes for ESG and ensure accurate and timely reporting and disclosure of the annual ESG data and information. 
  • Ensures Standard Operation Procedures and other documentation supporting ESG reporting activities are in place, follow best practice and properly maintained. 
  • Implement best practices and optimize ESG ratings and outcomes. Work with internal and external stakeholders to develop new sustainability programs and policies, such as environmentally preferable procurement and waste diversion. 

 

Education and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferred in a relevant field such as ESG, Environmental Studies, Economics, Finance, Data Analytics, or Information Systems. 
  • Minimum 5 years work experience in the sustainability field, preferably working in both consulting and a corporate environment in a variety of sustainability-related matters impacting multinational corporations; including at least 3 years of experience conducting assurance of sustainability/ESG/financial reports in audit firms or similar organization and/or supporting companies to improve ESG reporting internal control environments 
  • Solid understanding of ESG reporting and disclosure requirements (legal/standards) and trends.  
  • Solid understanding of ESG metrics, protocols and ESG reports and responses to ESG rating agencies and rankings (e.g., CDP). 
  • Working experience in managing ESG data collection and reporting processes. Good attention to quality and details and solid analytical skills. 
  • Excellent project management skills and an ability to manage multiple complex projects and diverse stakeholders 
  • Strong interpersonal and an ability to work with senior stakeholders and leaders, build rapport across functional boundaries as well as people of diverse backgrounds 

Working Location/Travel:

  • Ideally located in Raleigh, NC area for in person meetings, otherwise remote
  • Travel as needed
