POSITION SUMMARY 

The main responsibilities of the KOA Report Developer are to understand the business requirements presented to them, design and implement reports from the ground up, maintain existing reports, and support the deployment and any issues reported throughout the lifecycle of the report.  The Report Developer should have a very strong background in report development, SQL database, and the best practices for writing clean, performant, well-structured SQL queries resulting in top-tier user experience.  They should also be very experienced with creating stored procedures, user defined functions, database views, and other SQL database objects with a full understanding of when each would be appropriate.

 

The Report Developer will work closely with the Product Owner to understand the requirements of the business and the Quality Analyst to test the report.  They will also be working closely with our DBA to ensure that queries are written according to our standards and best practices.

 

SUPERVISORY DUTIES & RELATIONSHIPS

Non-Supervisory Position 

  

Will work closely with Product Owner, Developers, Software Quality Analyst, Database Administrator, Support team, and various stakeholders.

  

Remote work is authorized for this position up to and including full time remote work as approved by the supervisor. 

  • This position will require a minimal amount of travel. Upon hiring, the successful candidate will be required to travel to the KOA Corporate offices in Billings MT for in-person training and orientation. Additionally, in-person attendance will be required on a yearly cycle to attend departmental meetings and/or staff development meetings. Ample advance notice will be provided.
  • Attendance at all sprint ceremonies, including daily stand-up meetings, is required utilizing conferencing collaboration tools when working remote.

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES

  • Become familiar with the business to help the stakeholder clarify the data need. Initial stakeholder requests often need to be adjusted to provide the data that is desired. Help refine the request by performing requirement analysis.
  • Design, develop, implement, and support reports, data pulls, dashboards/dashboard components, visualizations, and report interfaces.
  • Write and maintain SQL queries that adhere to best practices delivering accurate and performant results.
  • Analyze execution plans and utilize performance evaluation tools to optimize queries.
  • Work in an Agile Scrum environment and participate in the required Scrum ceremonies.
  • Work with Database Administrator to determine data source/view to use for the data need.
  • Work with Software Quality Analyst to assist with testing questions.
  • Work with Stakeholder before deployment to ensure user acceptance.
  • Work with Support Team to provide tier three support for issues that have been reported by users.

EXPECTED RESULTS

  • Evaluate each request in lieu of already existing reports to ensure duplicate outputs are avoided.
  • When appropriate, offer ideas on how to more effectively present report output.
  • Work with stakeholder on User Acceptance Testing to confirm business requirements have been achieved.

 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • A bachelor's degree in business, technology, or related field.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience with MS SQL Server required.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in report writing or business analysis or a related field.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience with Jasper Server/Jasper Studio preferred.
  • Strong understanding of SQL relational database structure, able to write complicated, yet performant queries.
  • Experience writing stored procedures, user defined functions, database views, and other database objects.
  • Able to profile queries and understand execution plans to optimize queries.
  • Experience with source control, GIT preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Java programming language.
  • Working knowledge of JavaScript, CSS, and HTML.
  • Experience with Agile Scrum processes preferred.
  • Outstanding analytical and technical skills for report design and execution.
  • The ability to influence stakeholders and work closely with them to determine acceptable solutions.
  • Competency in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • A track record of following through on commitments.
  • Excellent planning, organizational, and time management skills. Ability to work independently and manage priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Positive, can-do attitude with a willingness to learn, and a passion for Software Development.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds occasionally
  • Evening, weekend, and holiday work may be required
  • Ability to travel by air and auto
  • Ability to answer phone calls, hear issues, & give direction while viewing computer screens
  • Must speak and write English fluently
  • Requires use of hands for typing, handling paperwork, & other office functions such as copying, sorting, & filing.
  • Requires long periods of sitting and viewing computer screens (85%).
