HIGHWAYS ROAD MAINTENANCE WORKER
SEASONAL SHORT TERM
The Kenosha County Highway Division is accepting applications for a
short-term seasonal Road Maintenance Worker.
The short-term seasonal Road Maintenance Worker provides assistance to all units in the Highway Division of the Department of Public Works, including traffic control, grass trimming, trash pick-up, and assisting in a wide variety of road maintenance services. This position requires multi-tasking and the ability to react quickly to rapidly changing situations.

2025 Hiring Range: $18.00 to $22.00 per hour
WORK SCHEDULE
- Work hours are typically Monday through Thursday from 6:00 AM to 4:00 PM
- Work schedules are determined by the workload and weather and are subject to change
- This position typically works from May to October, but is based solely on the workload of Kenosha County and is subject to change
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performing Highway Division traffic control for a variety of road maintenance jobs
- Assisting road workers in completion of assigned tasks
- Grass mowing and/or string trimming
- Picking up trash from the county roadways
- Providing assistance with equipment cleaning as needed
- Providing assistance with facilities general housekeeping as required
- Assisting in any assigned role to improve productivity and efficiency
JOB REQUIREMENTS, EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
- Must be at least 18 years old at time of application
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Some experience with safety procedures and precautions applicable to maintenance of roads and mechanical equipment is preferred
- Some experience in road construction or equipment is desirable
- Must possess a valid driver’s license at time of hire and maintain during incumbency, with acceptable driving record

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

- The employee will have to carry up to 10 pounds frequently, 40 pounds occasionally, and stand for long periods of time

Kenosha County participates in the FICA Alternative Retirement Program. Seasonal employees are automatically enrolled in this program if they do not meet eligibility criteria for the Wisconsin Retirement System (pension). The FICA Alternative plan replaces the payment of FICA tax and instead contributes a percentage of pre-tax wages into an investment account for the benefit of the employee.
