Travel Plaza Transportation, LLC (TPT) has evolved into one of Hawaii's largest bus operators, with an extensive fleet of commercial vehicles, and a broad suite of transportation service offerings on Oahu. TPT is the first private transportation company to acquire electric buses in support of our island community and the rest of the global community to achieve environmental sustainability.
Dayforce: Pine Street-Maintenance [Pay Range: $28.00 - $40.00/ hour]

Primary Responsibilities: Independently perform inspections, diagnostics and repair of motorcoaches, diesel and gasoline engines, and service vehicles and equipment of a diversified fleet.

Secondary Functions:
- Responsible for performing more difficult repairs, assist staff in performing duties or when on emergency road calls.
- In absence of the Manager or supervisor will oversee the other employees and ensure that work is proceeding on schedule and deadlines are met.
- Perform other related duties as required.
- Orient and train new mechanic employees.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- High school graduate and from an accredited college or trade school or, high school and/or at least five (5) years mechanical experience/training in electronic, diesel, air brakes, and cooling systems.
- Possess at least two (2) years’ work experience as a Fleet Mechanic – 2nd Class.
- Possess a valid State of Hawaii CDL B license, plus passenger endorsement.
- ASE certifications H4, H8, H5, H7, H6 or MCI equivalent Training program.
- Able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing and effectively work with employees, other agencies and the public.
- Possess methods, materials, tools and techniques used in vehicle and equipment repair and maintenance.
- Able to diagnose mechanical problems and performing repairs.
- Possess working safety practices and procedures experience, to diagnose problems and make repairs in the field on a 24-hour basis.
Working Conditions:
Working Hours
Full-time – shift work, up to 40 hours per week, Sunday - Saturday, or as needed. Overtime may be necessary with prior management approval.
Working Environment
- Mechanical repair work is performed both inside and outside maintenance facility.
- Intermittent exposure to varying elements and weather conditions, up to and including, noise, vibration and oils; mechanical, electrical hazards; atmospheric conditions that affect the respiratory system or skin; may be required to wear respirator for some duties. May be exposed to solvents, cleaners, fumes, dust, dirt, grease, oils, fuel, and other chemicals used in an automotive/heavy equipment maintenance facility.
Equipment Used
Must be able to operate and use a variety of general and special purpose hand tools, power tools, hydraulic tools, air tools, measurement devices, electrical and other testing equipment; hoist and lift equipment; welding equipment; chemicals; safety equipment and clothing; telephone or cellular phone, two-way radio or a combination of both cellular phone and two-way radio; written manuals; maps and schematics; computer and laptop computer and digital camera.
Physical and Mental Demands
- Required physical flexibility in order to frequently access limited space areas. May occasionally need to perform work in confined spaces or under limited lighting conditions.
- Extensive use of hands, fingers, legs, and arms in grasping objects, driving equipment and using hand and power tools involved in maintenance and repair functions.
- Possess capacity to explain equipment repair techniques by explanation, demonstration and supervised practice.
- Requires attention to detail, and ability to analyze situations.
- Must diagnose problems and decide on best method to repair.
- Constant – pushing, pulling/lifting/carrying less than 25 pounds to more than 50 pounds, standing, walking, stair climbing, bending, crawling, squatting, stooping, kneeling, climbing, forward and overhead reaching, twisting, side bending, grasping, handing, finger dexterity, vision, hearing, eye-hand-foot coordination;
- Seldom – sitting or running.
Communication Demands
- Constant – requires talking and written communication to co-workers and outside trade persons/vendors, talking on the telephone, supervising others, responding to written or verbal requests of co-workers and vendors, training/giving verbal instructions, receiving verbal and written instructions, writing/composing written language, reading, visiting/working at different worksites.
- Seldom – requires talking and written communication to customers.
