Dayforce Code: Hawaii-Mechanic 3rd Class-Maintenance   [Pay Range:  $24.00 - $30.00]

 

 PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:  Perform a variety of semi-skilled work in servicing, maintaining, and repairing motor coaches and other mechanical equipment.  Assist skilled mechanics with repairs and replacement of tires, engines, transmissions, A/C components, batteries, brakes, and bodywork.

Essential Functions

40%

General Service and Minor Repairs

  1. Perform routine service tasks relating to automotive repair, such as installing and servicing batteries, spark plugs, light bulbs, and fan belts.
  2. Perform minor repairs such as flushing or replacing fuel lines, replacing unit assemblies and disassembling simple units, and checking transmissions, mufflers, and tailpipes as directed by other mechanics.
  3. Check and service automotive vehicles and other motorized equipment running on gasoline or diesel.
  4. Perform removal and replacement of parts, tires, and seat covers.
  5. Perform minor engine and electrical diagnostic tests.

Assist with Repairs and Diagnostics

  1. Assist higher grade mechanics in overhauling and repairing trucks, passenger cars, buses, compressors, pumps, and other motorized equipment.
  2. Assist higher grade mechanics in disassembling, assembling, and repairing major units of motorized equipment by holding wrenches, grinding valves, changing piston rings, cleaning parts with solvent or steam and performing other duties related to motor overhaul and repair.
  3. Assist in performing repairs to motorized equipment including but not limited to: repairing ignition systems, transmission, brake and clutch assemblies, mufflers and tailpipes.

Instruction and Installation

  1. Follow installation instructions provided with replacement parts or instructions found in the proper repair manual.
  2. Read and understand vehicle service manuals for the responsibilities described above.

 

 Secondary Functions:

  1. Pick up and deliver parts and equipment from local supply firms.
  2. Maintain detailed records of work performed, such as labor materials used.
  3. Perform other duties as required.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  1. High school diploma and trade school graduate.
  2. Possess at least two (2) years’ work experience in general automotive and/or heavy equipment, or general mechanical field.
  3. Possess knowledge of equipment operation and methods used in the repair of automotive equipment; is familiar with all aspects of gasoline and diesel engine repair.
  4. Able to learn the proper use of standard tools of the mechanic trade.
  5. Able to perform minor repairs as required, and service heavy and light equipment.
  6. Able to follow written and verbal instructions, as well as maintain detailed reports.
  7. Possess math skills including usage of 10-key calculator.
  8. Able to effectively and professionally communicate in English (read, write, speak).
  9. Possess valid Hawaii driver’s license with clean abstract.

 

Working Conditions:

Working Hours

  1. Full-time, up to 40 hours per week, Sunday through Saturday, or as deemed necessary.
  2. Overtime may be required, with prior management approval.
  3. Regular attendance at the workplace is required.

 

Working Environment

  1. Indoor and outdoor work environment in various weather conditions.
  2. May have intermittent exposure to outside elements, noise, vibration and oils; mechanical, electrical hazards.
  3. May be required to wear respirator for some duties due to atmospheric conditions that affect the respiratory system or skin.
  4. Occasionally need to perform work in confined spaces or under limited lighting conditions.
  5. May be exposed to solvents, cleaners, fumes, dust, dirt, grease, oils, fuel, and other elements used in an automotive or heavy equipment maintenance facility.

 

Equipment Used

  1. General and special purpose hand, power, hydraulic, and air tools.
  2. Measurement devises, electrical, and other testing equipment, hoist and lift equipment, welding equipment, chemicals, safety equipment and clothing.
  3. Telephone, cellular phone, two-way radio, written manuals, maps and schematics, desktop and laptop computer, and digital camera.

 

Mental Demands

  1. Able to use information and subject matter knowledge related to data and information obtained through observation, interpretation, visualization, and practical experience.
  2. Able to explain computer repair techniques by explanation, demonstration, and supervised practice.
  3. Alertness, attention to detail, concentration, and able to analyze situations.
  4. Able to interpret, and follow a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form; comprehend service manuals and keep abreast of technical changes.
  5. Must diagnose problems and make decisions on the best method to conduct repairs.

 

Physical Demands

  1. Must meet standard requirements and pass company sponsored medical examination, CDL, and drug/alcohol tests.
  2. Demonstrate competency and proficiency in the diagnostics pertaining to repairs/replacements on power trains and accessories, suspension systems, and electrical/electronic systems.
  3.
