Child Care Substitute

 

General Summary: 

 

Duties and responsibilities shall also include, but not be limited to, the following:

 

  1. Serve as primary or assistant caregiver for children by program (ages will vary depending on program from 6 weeks to 12 years old).
  2. Responsibilities may include physical care giving, developmental assessments, and following age-appropriate curriculum and lesson plans.
  3. Follow program-specific guidelines for intake/attendance, food/snacks, and general care of children. Follow emergency procedures as appropriate.
  4. Exhibit patience and flexibility for working with and adapting to the varying needs of children.
  5. Clear communication with children, parents, and staff. Maintains a positive and encouraging attitude when working with children, parents and peers.
  6. Maintains First Aid and Infant/Child CPR certification.
  7. Is a Mandated Reporter of suspected cases of child abuse and neglect in accordance with Maryland State and Montgomery County regulations. Reports suspected cases of child abuse and neglect to direct supervisor.
  8. Maintain confidentiality of family records and information.
  9. Performs other duties as assigned.
  10. In case of an emergency, it is crucial to follow the established protocol.
  11. Able to lift at least 40 pounds.

 

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a high school diploma
  • 18 years of age.
  •  Infant/Child CPR and First Aid certified.
  • Previous experience working children in a group setting preferred.
  • Experience with multi-ethnic, low-income, and at-risk families preferred.
  • Work cooperatively with families and accept them as an essential part of the program.
