Click Here for Video Job Description The Gas Engine POD is divided into the following stations: Disassembly, Parts Prep, Block and Head Welding/Repair, Head/ Block Machining, Head and Final Assembly, and Testing. All positions will utilize basic hand tools, impact gun, and hoist apparatus. Disassembly: Associates disassemble the entire engine core, which includes removal of screws, rings, seals, connector rods, pistons, etc. After removing the parts, they will then load the various parts in a basket prepping them to be washed. Must have excellent attention to detail, strong hand dexterity and problem solving skills. Parts Prep: Associates will take the washed parts and if any parts need further cleaning they will utilize a soda/media blaster along with a shock blaster to remove any excess dirt or rust. The parts are then checked for cracks and areas of wear and loaded onto a cart prepping them for repairs. This individual must be detail oriented along with having strong hand dexterity. Block and Head Welding/Repair: Associates utilize various tools such as an orbital sander, bench grinder, welding torch, etc. They repair worn bolt holes, weld cracks, sand and grind parts to a smooth finish, and many other small part repairs to return them to new condition. Parts that are not salvageable must be ordered through the use of a computer. This individual must be detail oriented, computer literate, and have problem-solving skills along with preferred tig and stick welding experience. Block/Head Machining: Associates will utilize a milling, boring, and align honing machine. The Associate will be using tools such as a honing bar and calibration rod. They will use precision measuring equipment to accurately machine parts in conjunction with the specs and accuracy required for specific jobs. This position requires an individual with strong hand dexterity and math skills. Head and Final Assembly: Associates will first put the engine head into a wash tank to be cleaned of all dirt. The Associate installs all valves, seals and springs before performing a vacuum test to check for the required pressure. The engine head then moves on to final assembly where Associates will assemble the heads on the units along with installing push rods, lifters, and rockers. The position requires utilizing torque wrenches and precise gauging equipment. One must be detail oriented, computer literate, and have strong math skills. Testing: This position requires Associates to prepare the engine for a test run that matches the specific engine type. Each test will run for approximately 15 minutes. While the test run is in progress, the Associate monitors many different diagnostics. Once the test run is completed they check the engine for oil leaks by using a black light. Associates then enter all testing results into the computer to check for engine failure and perform a final inspection. Associates must be computer literate, and willing to learn the different procedures for each engine type. |
