Safety Technician - Welding and Fabrication

Position Purpose

In this role, the Safety Technician will support JCB North American headquarters operations located in Pooler, GA. This role will focus support with specialized focused in the welding and fabrication department. This role will report to the EHS Director and will be responsible to comply with all JCB, OSHA general industry as well as all Local, Federal and State Environmental responsibilities.

Major Tasks, Responsibilities & Key Accountabilities

  • Work closely with Fabrication & Welding managers, leads and employees to drive, build and sustain a healthy safety culture. (90% of time will be in the welding department)
  • Assist with incident investigations (first aid, near misses, recordable, environmental and property damage) using a team-based approach to problem solving and to effectively implement corrective actions (3-Pager Process)
  • Support the initiatives and efforts to successfully implement ISO 14001 for JCB North America
  • Support compliance with all environmental programs to include, stormwater, wastewater (NPDES), SPCC, RCRA, and other Federal and State regulatory requirements.
  • Support implementation of sustainability and recycling initiatives
  • Conduct EHS related inspections and audits, generate reports and communicate findings. Responsible for all trending and tracking of data.
  • Work closely with managers, leads and employees to drive, build and sustain a healthy safety culture.
  • Serve as back up incident commander during fire and/or medical emergency responses.
  • Be the FACE OF SAFETY in the Welding & Fabrication department.

Reports to EHS Director

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • 2 years of Fabrication & Welding Experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Comfortable to coach an employee and be a change agent.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively with all levels of management, peers, and employees.
  • 1-2 years EHS related experience in general industry manufacturing environments with direct exposure to environmental and/or health and safety field 
  • Must pass any drug screens, background checks and any pre-employments tests as applicable.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bi-lingual (Spanish & English)
  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental or safety related field or equivalent
  • Hold or making progress toward GSP/ASP
  • Environmental certifications, water/wastewater licenses or experience
  • Basic understanding of fire protections systems a plus, but not required.

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Competencies

  • Basic Knowledge of Environmental, Health and Safety Regulatory Compliance
  • Strong interpersonal skills, particularly in communication and persuasion in employee interactions
  • Knowledge of applicable 29 CFR 1910 - OSHA General Industry Standards  
  • Training development and delivery
  • Knowledge and skill in using a variety of computer programs, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other applications.
  • Integrity and ability to maintain confidentiality of information. 
  • Public speaking and presentation skills

 

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to perform continuous, repetitious physical activities.  These activities may involve fine movements or large motions.
  • Must be able to push/pull with reasonable force.
  • Must be able to perform the following requirements of bending, stooping, climbing, kneeling, and standing for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to work in multiple climates including hot/cold temperatures, and dusty environment.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.

  • The employee frequently lifts and/or moves objects up to 25 pounds.
