Metrology Technician - Springfield, MO
Position Summary
Work with cross functional project teams to identify, develop, and implement product verification methods. Serve as subject matter expert, responsible to ensure good measurement practices are applicable during project management and transition to manufacturing. Assures customer specification and inspection methods are understood and complied with throughout engineering project into production. Proactively identify and implement predictive quality analytics on products and develop trend analysis to prompt corrective action before products reach out of spec condition. This position is in a fast paced, dynamic environment working with dispersed teams.
Primary Functions
- Interfaces with customers along with cross functional project teams to understand and communicate product requirements and inspection requirements for new and customer supplied mold projects to the plant.
- Perform and document First Article/Protocol inspections for new, customer-supplied and modified molds.
- Work to ensure proper metrology fixtures are built for various products.
- Complete process capability studies for pre-delivery samples.
- Evaluate data collection methods in concert with product design and provide recommendations for proactive or predictive quality actions
- Program and train personnel in use of Optical Measuring equipment (i.e. CMM, OGP, and Vision Hawk).
- Use SPC software to collect and evaluate process data for continual improvement and provide feedback to applicable
- Assists Quality Manager in enhancing quality and manufacturing personnel overall knowledge and understanding of the use of all measurement/test equipment.
- Continually updates knowledge of current state-of-the-art inspection/testing instrumentation and techniques and integrates into existing methods and programs.
- Performs gap and overlap analysis and determines pathway for changing requirements.
- With the team, work through Continuous Process Improvements as assigned or thought of to reduce waste, improve process, improve housekeeping and/or improve cost savings.
Key Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years metrology experience with a good understanding of troubleshooting and metrology best practices and common issues addressed by metrology.
- Minimum 3 to 5 years’ experience in a metrology position with demonstrated successful performance.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience with bench top systems, precision measuring equipment data interface equipment, gaging, and metrology/calibration.
- NIST understanding a plus.
- 3 to 5 years experience in SPC, sampling/auditing/reading blueprints, dimensioning and tolerance.
- Practical and direct experience with computer hardware and software including Minitab, QC CALC, and statistical, graphical spreadsheets and word processing software.
- Six Sigma experience preferred.
- Excellent computer capabilities, including MS Office.
- Interpersonal skills required to communicate in accurate manner to individuals and to the team to develop a cohesive group.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Demonstrated ability to display diplomacy in day-to-day interactions with the commitment to task with awareness of urgency.
