Sr. Engineer, Traffic Operations [FL]
Iteris is looking for a Sr. Engineer, Traffic Operations that seeks to join a talented group of professionals to promote thriving communities by applying technology to solve complex issues in transportation. You will lead the Iteris Arterial Management operations team in the FDOT Traffic Operations Center in Orlando. The team of Traffic Operations Specialists are responsible for monitoring, managing and operating priority arterial corridors, identifying operational concerns that are affecting traffic flow and initiating implementation of strategies to eliminate or mitigate those concerns. All members of the team are signal timing specialists who are experienced in the field of arterial traffic operations and are extremely familiar with the traffic operations along the program corridors.
What you will be doing:
- Ensure that critical State Road arterial corridors are being operated at a high level of efficiency and effectiveness by establishing baseline conditions, identifying any deficiencies, monitoring the corridor on a regular basis to identify any degradation of the corridor requiring corrective action, and then initiating such corrective action
- Manage a team of Traffic Operations Specialists/Engineers who are responsible for the analysis, assessment, and interpretation of data, conditions, and systems to plan and execute traffic signal retiming improvements
- Provide signal timing plan development/refinement following maintaining agency protocol and practice and development/refinement of special event timing plans to be implemented as part of active arterial management
- Coordinate Arterial Management TMC activities by assisting in the management of responses to incidents, disasters and high-profile special events, accommodating the data needs of special agencies and third parties, etc.
- Use all available platforms (ATMS, travel time, ATSPM, CMS, etc.) to analyze and adjust signal operations to obtain maximum throughput and provide safe, reliable and efficient arterial operations
- Spend majority of time at the Regional Traffic Management Center (RTMC) and liaise with maintaining agency contacts
- Collaborate with client management delivering projects to the clients' satisfaction within business objectives
- Respond effectively to concerns related to traffic signal operations
- Prepare correspondence and technical reports
- Limited local travel to conduct field work
What you need to be successful in this role:
- Bachelor's Degree (four-year college or technical school) required, field of study: Civil Engineering, Transportation Planning, Electrical Engineering, or related field
- Professional Engineer (PE)
- Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) certification (or obtain within 6 months)
- International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Traffic Signal Field Technician Level II certification (or obtain within 6 months)
- Minimum five (5) years of experience in transportation engineering or related field conducting a wide array of traffic engineering analyses
- Minimum three (3) years of experience managing project and/or program for public agencies, staff management, and mentoring
- Familiar with tools such as Synchro, Sim Traffic, VISSIM (multi-model traffic flow simulation software package), AutoCAD, MicroStation, etc.
- Experience and knowledge of ATMS platforms, traffic signal controllers and traffic engineering applications
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
- Knowledge of state and federal transportation specifications and standards
- Proficient in MS Office
- Knowledge of Florida DOT Traffic operations processes is desired
Iteris anticipates paying between $110,000.00 and $125,000.00 for this role. However, actual pay offered may vary depending on job related knowledge, skills, and experience.
