Internship Title – Load Impact Factors AND Load Forecast Model Design and Building

Department Description: 
Operations Forecasting is responsible for producing and updating the New England Reliability Coordinator and Balancing Authority Area Current Operating Plan (COP) for the current and next operating day. To meet this responsibility several supporting tasks are performed, including an hourly forecast of demand and the output of variable distributed energy resources for the current and next six days, updating the 7-Day Forecast of Capacity Margin and executing and analyzing the results of the Reserve Adequacy Analysis (RAA).

What will you be working on:
In this role, you will develop analysis and statistics showing the effect and correlation that various Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) such as solar, which is everywhere but not visible from the Control Room & Demand Response Resources (DRRs) which is demand that the ISO can ask to shut off, have on native & net load.

You will design & develop independent and dependent load forecast models for distinct DER & DRR types. VBA will be used in the ITRON Metrix platform to build, train & automate all model processes and outputs.

This internship will provide you a working knowledge of real-time operation of the New England power grid and the various resources that are involved. 

How will you make an impact:
The expected results of this intern project is a real need for the ISO in addressing the rapidly changing mix of grid resources.  You will gain In-depth knowledge and experience in load forecast modeling and the numerous dependent data and factors that drive load forecast behavior.

What we look for in a candidate: 
Experienced with VBA 
Experienced with Excel 
Working knowledge of SQL 
Intermediate knowledge of Python

To be eligible for the internship candidate must have completed at least the first year of college and be currently enrolled in a four year or graduate-level academic program. Candidates must have the authority to work in the US on a permanent basis, without requiring sponsorship.
