Internship Title – Study of Extreme Weather Scenarios and Risks in Long Term Planning
Department – Advanced Technology Solutions
Minimum Education level: PhD
Preferred Majors: Power System Engineering
Department Description:
The Advanced Technology Solutions (ATS) department engages in both long-term research projects and near-term design/process improvements. The department consists of experts in three topic areas: power systems, simulations, and markets. In all projects, the goal of the department is to provide innovative and practical solutions to current and emerging questions for ISO New England.
What will you be working on:
In this project, weather scenarios (spatial-temporal tuples of weather variables) will be generated based on historical weather patterns. Their Impact on power system operation will be simulated, reflecting both generation and transmission outages due to the weather events. The scenarios set will be further reduced with the most representative scenarios identified to support long-term planning.
How will you make an impact:
This role will help implement the conceptual framework.
What we look for in a candidate:
Enrolled in a power and energy Ph.D. program.
Familiarity with the PowerWorld and/or PSS/E software is required.
The candidate should also have had knowledge and experience in using Python or R to conduct statistical and big data studies.
