Lead Network Engineer
ISO New England is the not-for-profit, independent system operator responsible for ensuring the safe and reliable flow of electricity in our region and planning for the future of the electric grid. We are at the forefront of New England’s ongoing transition to clean energy.
ISO New England is looking for a Lead Network Engineer to maintain and administer our Software-defined and Physical networks, related to our Public Cloud, Core, and Edge networks. The primary duties will include architecting, planning, patching, and leading network improvements and technology rollouts in project, orchestration and operational scope.

How you will make an impact:
- Provide network expertise on projects as a Lead Network Engineer to architect, document, implement and oversee key IT initiatives, across multiple regions, data centers and mixed vendor technologies.
- Assess organizational needs and make recommendations to influence the technical direction of the team and organization, promoting efficiency, reliability, excellence, and continuous improvement
- Manage network policy changes using change management workflows and GitOps
- Lead incident investigations, diagnosis and service restoration of emerging network issues.
- Conduct reviews of network systems to proactively identify problems and design, pitch, implement, and lead technical solutions
- Consider Application state in relation to network infrastructure, while being able to advocate and explain mission to various levels of technical audiences.
What you need to be successful in this role:
- Bachelor’s degree in information technology related field of study with a network engineering focus, or equivalent experience.
- One or more relevant certifications such as CCNP and/or AWS Certified Advanced Networking
- Experience leveraging Ansible, Terraform and GitOps for Configuration Management and related workflows
- Knowledge of Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE), Palo Alto Prisma Access, Prisma Cloud for AWS.
- Demonstrated experience integrating corporate networks, including point-to-point/VPN, with AWS as well as AWS via Direct Connect.
- Demonstrated experience working with Internal/External BGP enterprise deployments
- Experience working with wavelength-division multiplexing technologies
- Knowledge of IPv6 concepts and methods of deployment
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, writing, documentation and customer service skills.
