ISO New England is the not-for-profit, independent system operator responsible for ensuring the safe and reliable flow of electricity in our region and planning for the future of the electric grid. We are at the forefront of New England’s ongoing transition to clean energy.

We seek motivated individuals to join the Market Development team. Our job is to lead projects that integrate new technologies into competitive electricity markets and help facilitate the region’s clean energy transition. We work as a team, within the department, the company, and the region, to assess, design, and implement real-world changes to improve the electric grid and electricity markets.

 

As a Senior Energy Market Analyst, your primary responsibilities will involve assessing market designs, recommending solutions, and engaging with stakeholders. Your teammates come from a variety of backgrounds – economists, engineers, data scientists, writers, traders, business professionals, and more. Collectively, we assign projects and project roles based on each person’s expertise, passions, and goals. Candidates from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

How you will make an impact:

  • Working with multi-departmental project teams, you will:
  • Identify opportunities to improve electricity markets through research and analysis of outcomes, market rules, participant actions, and policy objectives.
  • Evaluate solutions by defining objectives, explaining potential benefits and limitations, and substantiating solution approaches.
  • Propose changes to market products and rules governing how products are awarded or priced and explain them to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Support regulatory submissions of proposed rule changes, including providing expert testimony.

 

What you need to be successful in this role:

  • Bachelor or Master's degree in Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Business, Finance, Management Science, or other related discipline.
  • Knowledge of the energy industry, market design, power systems, or energy trading.
  • Experience performing research and technical analyses to identify and explain problems, proposing and evaluating solutions, and executing project-based work.

 

Desired not required:

  • Knowledge of software and systems used to administer and clear markets, including by electric grid operators (e.g., clearing and pricing algorithms, bid submittal and qualification, or market settlement systems).
  • Experience using statistical analysis, simulation, or data query tools (e.g., Python, R, SAS, Matlab, SQL, Excel).
