Corporate Counsel - Employment
ISO New England is the not-for-profit, independent system operator responsible for ensuring the safe and reliable flow of electricity in our region and planning for the future of the electric grid. We are at the forefront of New England’s ongoing transition to clean energy.
Our team is growing and currently seeks a lawyer with experience in employment law and a background in general corporate matters to provide expert legal advice and counsel to the HR team and executives on best practices and a broad range of employment topics, including hiring and terminations, leaves and accommodations, payroll and benefits compliance, employee relations, and compliance with employment laws. In addition to drafting severance and other employment-related contracts, this lawyer may be tasked with general corporate matters, including the development of policies and contract review. The lawyer will be expected to stay up to date on employment laws and best practices, and advise the company accordingly.

How you will make an impact:
- Advises HR on employee relations issues, including hiring and terminations
- Drafts/reviews employment-related and other contracts
- Keeps up-to-date and advises Assistant General Counsel (AGS) on changes in employment laws of general applicability at state and federal levels
- Creates, reviews and updates corporate policies
- Liaise with outside counsel on employment-related litigation and disputes, when necessary
What you need to be successful in this role:
- J.D. degree from an accredited law school and membership in good standing with the state bar
- Licensed to practice law in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts or eligible for admission to the bar
- Three to six years of prior experience in employment law as an attorney in a law firm or in a top-tier internal legal department
- Extensive familiarity with contracts and excellent writing skills
Desired not required
- Experience within the energy industry
- Expertise in other areas of the law such as immigration and/or cyber law
