General Summary: Under general supervision the Medical Director assumes responsibly for the medical services of the program. In collaboration with the administrative and clinical teams, the Medical Director develops, implements, and evaluates the medical practice delivery model in accordance with the best standards of practice and the goals of the program. The Medical Director will provide health care services, oversee, organize, and evaluate medical services, and ensure seamless integration with behavioral health services across sites for members participating in the program. The Medical Director shall have clinical authority and share in the administrative functions that directly impact program services and collaborates with the management team in overall planning, budget, and quality improvement activities.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides high quality health care and preventive services to program members.
- Will perform all initial history and physicals of members along with submitting labs and tests necessary to assess need of services.
- Makes referrals to specialty medical providers as appropriate.
- Oversees and maintains performance improvement processes for the clinic.
- Develops and implements, in collaboration with clinical and administrative staff, evidence-based clinical protocols and guidelines for use by clinical staff.
- Routinely review charts of providers for appropriateness and adherence to evidence based and/or best practices.
- Obtains, analyzes, and reviews population health metrics as they pertain to the clinic’s patient population. Benchmarks population health metrics to available clinic, community, and national values and standards. Recommends quarterly/annual goals.
- Participates in quality improvement meetings with quality management team and relevant staff members.
- Upholds and implements a culture of continuous quality improvement at clinic.
- Participates in the recruitment and selection process for medical providers.
- Performs clinical supervision of medical staff, including regular performance appraisals and feedback to staff.
- Provides supervision of all medical staff including clinical scheduling, call, and leave. Serves as a liaison between medical staff and administration.
- Provides supervision of continuing professional education, in-service training, and orientation of new medical staff.
- Approves student affiliation agreements and student rotations, responsible for overall performance of clinical students in the health center.
- Advises on purchase of medical equipment.
- Leads planning for the development of new clinical programs.
- Facilitates medical staff/provider meetings.
- Performs or delegates responsibility for quarterly medical record reviews for all medical staff focusing on appropriateness, quality, and outcomes of care.
- Supervises physician assistants and nurse practitioners in the clinic.
- Development of standards and qualifications for medical personnel.
- Approval of medical practice procedures and policies.
- Responsible for the credentialing and privileging of the medical staff.
- Performs periodic review of practice management functions.
- Participates, in conjunction with the management team, in the overall budget planning and monitoring process; reviews the formulation and evaluation of project goals and budgets.
- Reviews and is familiar with relevant grant programs.
- Responsible for following any policies, procedures, and controls established by the organization, the HIPAA Privacy Officer, and/or the HIPAA Security Officer regarding access to, protection of, and the use of the PHI.
- Performs other duties as assigned or necessary as it relates to the general nature of the position.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education – Medical Degree.
- Experience – Experience working in a managed care setting. Experience in executive, administrative and supervisory roles.
- Certification –Board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology or by American college of Neuropsychiatry. Must have a current DEA certificate.
- License- Licensed as a physician in the State of Arizona.
REGULATORY:
- Minimum 21 years of age.
- Arizona Driver’s License, 39-month Motor Vehicle Report and proof of vehicle registration and liability insurance that meets insurance requirements.
- Must possess Level 1 fingerprint clearance.
- CPR and First Aid certification (Employer provides).
- Initial current negative TB test result (Employer provides).
- Must pass pre-employment drug screening.
