Grounds, Irrigation Technician

The Irrigation Technician will performs skilled work in the design, installation, repair, maintenance, and operation of irrigation systems; may serve as lead worker over an assigned group of employees engaged in irrigation projects.

Position Responsibilities

• Routinely inspects irrigation system components to ensure system is operating properly
• Operates system and schedules watering using Toro Lynx central control, Lynx Mobile, and push-button radio controllers
• Runs tests, troubleshoots, and performs repairs
• Repairs broken pipes, fittings, valves, drip tubing, sprinkler heads, and electrical components of a Toro 2-wire system
• Determines wet and dry areas for adjustments of sprinkler heads
• Sets sprinklers to grade, adjusts arcs, and cleans nozzles
• Maintains working knowledge of pump station maintenance requirements
• Prioritizes irrigation issues and uses time efficiently
• Properly inventories and stocks all irrigation parts and tools
• Keeps irrigation related tools and spaces clean and organized
• Assists in training other employees and acts in supervisory capacity as needed
• Incorporates safe work practices in job related activities
• Performs additional duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience
• Working knowledge of Toro/Rain Bird/Hunter irrigation equipment
• Self-starter
• Progressive experience with irrigation focus
• Ability to work outdoors in all conditions
• Ability to perform responsibilities with limited supervision

Preferred Skills

• Bilingual

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Ability to lift, move, push and pull equipment or boxes in excess of 40-70 lbs
• Ability to work on various indoor and outdoor surfaces including grass, turf, courts, etc. in all weather
• The department may require weekend and evening work
• The employee will be working on a campus and will be required to move within the campus, both indoors and outdoors
• The employee will be expected to be active throughout the day, and therefore requires high levels of energy
• The employee will be bending, pushing, pulling and twisting throughout their regular work duties
