Job Description

IHI Power Services Corp. (IPSC) has a career opportunity for a Power Plant O&M Supervisor in Pittsfield, MA.

IPSC provides operations, maintenance, management, and power support services to the US Power Generation Industry across the United States.  Our team is comprised of experts from diverse backgrounds of technical fields, including power operations, engineering, asset management, as well as finance, human resources, administration, safety and environmental.  With this diverse background coupled with extensive years of employee experience, IPSC provides exceptional operations, maintenance, management, and development expertise to a variety of power assets. The salary will range between $120K - $140K annually for this role. 

 

Job Summary

The O&M Supervisor is responsible for managing the plant's daily operations. The Supervisor directs the implementation of the Operating Plan and identifies areas that may need improvement or further development. The Supervisor also ensures that plant operating conditions are always kept within optimum limits.

 

Job Functions

  • Ensure that thermal and electrical outputs are maintained at maximum levels and efficiencies.
  • Report normal, abnormal, or emergency plant conditions to the Plant Manager. Take necessary corrective action in accordance with established policy or at the direction of the Plant Manager.
  • Prepare required reports for the owner and/or utility.
  • Oversee the daily upkeep of necessary plant logs and records.
  • Maintain the plant Operations Manuals and keep operating policies and procedures up-to-date.
  • Sustain the morale and motivation of operations personnel and handle employee concerns as they arise.
  • Ensure that the plant's water chemistry program is properly implemented, including testing, inspections, and maintenance of the water treatment program. Provide guidance to the chemist in administering the chemistry program.
  • Assist with the location, screening, and hiring of operating personnel. Complete other tasks as requested by the Plant Manager.
  • The Operation Supervisor follows established and well-known procedures, performing duties independently with only general direction. Decisions are made within policy constraints.
  • The Operation Supervisor encounters new and varied work situations involving a high degree of complexity.
  • The Operation Supervisor must ensure that all work is performed safely, with no accidents, and in compliance with all environmental permits. 
  • The Operation Supervisor must effectively communicate information to the Plant Manager's operation and maintenance personnel regarding the condition of the plant equipment and performance and provide suggestions for plant improvement.
  • The Operations Supervisor must ensure that duties are performed in a way that results in an optimum cost-benefit ratio.

 

Education and Experience - An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or equivalent is preferred. 5+ years of power plant or similar experience are required.
  • Steam Engineer; Gas turbine experience is highly desirable.
  • At least 2 years of experience supervising technical, supervisory, and administrative personnel required.
  • Strong leadership and motivational skills are required.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities - which may be representative, but not all-inclusive, of those commonly associated with this position.

  • Must possess basic math and computer skills, good verbal communications skills, and be proficient with the use of power and precision tools.
  • Must be cooperative with those he/she contacts in this work and have the ability to work without direct supervision.
  • Must know the hazards involved and the safety precautions to be practiced in the operation and maintenance of power plant equipment and machinery.
  • Work within and ensure strict adherence to all safety practices and procedures.
  • Must be able to respond to audio alarms and variations of sound.
  • Work as a team. Must be able to pool our knowledge and energy to work in tandem to understand and productively respond to all the business challenges completely.

 

Work Environment - Environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.

  • Protective equipment such as hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves, high voltage protective equipment, and other equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties.
  • Work with hazardous materials may be required.
  • Requires working extended working hours. On-call status (day and night) may be required.
  • Includes working indoors and outdoors.

  • Physical requirements include the possibility of working on feet for extensive periods, requiring stair and ladder climbing, and routinely lifting 50 pounds.
  • All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination drug screening and post-employment random drug screening. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.
