PURPOSE:
Fluid Power Specialists plan, implement, and execute targeted marketing and sales strategies. A core function of this position is making joint sales calls with other sales staff to explain the specifics of fluid power opportunities. The ideal candidate will be able to provide in-depth fluid power technical support for Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO) accounts, Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) accounts, and IBT branch offices. In this role, you will have the ability to utilize hands-on technical knowledge to handle calls from our customers in the areas of pre-sales selection, post-sales support, application, and troubleshooting assistance for our products. Your customer base will include external customers, suppliers, and internal customers including sales and branch team members. This position will be based out of our Merriam, KS headquarters with up to 50% travel.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Make joint sales calls to MRO and OEM accounts with other sales staff.

  • Make solo calls on select prospects and specially assigned fluid power accounts in or outside of the region as approved by Regional Manager

  • Develop, coordinate, teach and evaluate training and education tools to equip field employees with the skill and knowledge to effectively resolve customer needs as it relates to technical products.

  • Drive customer success in product application, selection, and troubleshooting over the phone and in person.

  • Coordinate fluid power initiatives with IBT branch locations within a designated geographic territory.

  • Identify, design, and implement fluid power system solutions at end-user accounts.

  • Assist in the collection of fluid power market data; identify interchange opportunities, application profiles, value-added opportunities, and application data.

  • Responsible for helping set sales target goals and execution of the fluid power marketing strategy.

  • Work with suppliers to grow sales on specific product lines.

  • Foster an environment of teamwork and open communication by sharing information, learning from and teaching others, following established processes, and recognizing exceptional performance.

  • Assist in developing and delivering product training and education to customers.

  • Assist account managers in Region 5 and Region 6 with their fluid power needs on special projects, strategic accounts or large new business development opportunities.

  • Promote eComm, UpTime, and other digital tools.

  • Create a monthly plan for personal sales calls on new and key customers in the territory.

  • Follow up with customers on a timely basis to provide the highest level of customer service, and ensure all customer inquiries have the proper follow-up procedures documented.

  • Report sales activity to the Regional Manager in an accurate and timely manner using appropriate technology resources.

  • Attend industry trade shows to accumulate new leads and make productive contact with existing clients.

  • Maintain competitive industry knowledge to identify potential opportunities for growth.

  • Be aware of competitive issues and communicate data to Regional Managers and Business Group Directors.

  • Conduct business in an ethical manner, and uphold all company policies and procedures.

  • Complete product training courses as directed by Regional Manager.

  • Operate company vehicle in a safe manner and ensure it is properly maintained and must have a valid driver’s license and maintain a clean driving record.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:

  • Strong sales experience in an industrial distribution setting, ideally, with knowledge of IBT products.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively and professionally present information and respond to customer questions and needs.

  • Ability to frequently lift items weighing 50 pounds.

  • 1-3 years of experience with Industrial Process Pumps, Automatic Lubrication Systems, and familiarity with Pneumatic Tools.

  • Technical Diploma, Associate's Degree, or Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering preferred.

  • Fluid power certification is a plus but must have the ability to become IFPS Fluid Power certified.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Sight, hearing, speech. Frequent lateral mobility; frequent entry and exit from vehicles; use of both hands and arms; routinely lift weights over 50 pounds; mentally able to plan and analyze verbal input; solve problems; make decisions and take appropriate action under moderate stress. Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

 

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED WORK HOURS

This is a full-time position with a typical work schedule of Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., however hours or types of work may vary by location. There may be times where there is an expectation to work extended hours as dictated by business needs. This position requires the ability to travel to all company locations as required.
