The general salary range for this position is $75,000 – 90,000. Salary offers will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, skills, training and education.
Humane World Action Fund, a global leader in animal advocacy and protection, is seeking a Regulatory Specialist, Federal Affairs. In this position you will encourage the development and enforcement of rules and regulations that support the protection of animals at federal government agencies as needed.
Responsibilities:
- Spearheads organizational work on federal government regulations. Acts as liaison between Humane World Action Fund and Humane World for Animals staff and officials at federal agencies. Works with program staff on drafting comments/letters to the agencies and oversees resources in support of agency efforts (action alerts, blogs, work with coalition partners);
- Develops and maintains positive relationships with agency officials in order to discuss proposed regulations and enforcement of laws that support the protection of animals;
- Provides guidance to Humane World Action Fund legislative staff on top requests during the federal budget process. Provides assistance on federal legislative work where needed;
- Performs other duties or responsibilities, as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Law degree required;
- A minimum of two years of experience working with the executive or legislative branch, or equivalent policy experience required;
- Understanding the regulatory process and case law impacting federal regulations and policies is essential;
- Knowledge of the laws implemented by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Department of Agriculture, U.S. Department of the Interior, and U.S. Health and Human Services involving animals is required;
- Ability to understand and interpret complex scientific data;
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook);
- Comfortable in a fast-paced environment with frequent deadlines; high energy, self-motivated and proactive;
- Ability to multitask, and be flexible with regard to workload and assignments;
- Ability to exercise sound judgment;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills;
- Attention to detail and commitment to excellence demonstrated by the delivery of quality and timely outcomes;
- Ability to work both independently and as an effective team member in a team environment;
- Strong interest in animal protection issues preferred.
This is a hybrid position based in Washington, DC.
