Job Overview
 
This is a union position.

 

Women age 18 and above with severe substance use disorders are able to enter residential treatment with their children under the age of 10 ½. In addition to treatment of severe substance use disorder, the residential program is able to serve the following specialty populations: pregnant and postpartum women, women with histories of trauma and/or domestic violence, women with co-occurring mental health disorders, women with history of traumatic brain injury, women with open DCFS cases, and women with criminal justice involvement. 

The SUD Counselor is a registered/certified substance use disorder professional who maintains registration/certification from an approved/accredited California agency. The SUD Counselor is responsible for delivering services to a caseload of clients and providing individualized substance use disorder services. The SUD Counselor works in collaboration with other members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure best possible treatment outcome for the client and provide treatment in accordance with HealthRIGHT 360s philosophy, goals, policies, mission and vision. The SUD Counselor may provide treatment utilizing different modalities including individual and/or group. Services may be provided in: outpatient office, residential treatment, or the field, based on client and program need. 

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Assists clients with intake, assessment, and orientation to program upon admission or transition in care level.
  • Helps lead the client through the treatment plan and delivers individual and group substance use disorder services.
  • Monitors client's progress toward achieving treatment plan goals and provides treatment plan input.
  • Utilizes trauma informed care while applying motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, and evidence-based practices.
  • Delivers residential and intensive outpatient service clients with a minimum of 1 individual session per week. Delivers outpatient clients a minimum of 1 session every two weeks.
  • Seeks clinical consultation throughout the treatment episode and when encountering new and/or high risk clinical circumstance.
  • Works collaboratively with other members of the treatment team including the Case Manager, Clinical Therapist, Medical, and Psychiatrist.
  • Assists clients with coordination of care by providing appropriate linkages and referrals to additional services as needed.
  • Maintains frequent communication with the treatment team and engages in regular consults, clinical team, case conferences, and plan development meetings.
  • Delivers services in outpatient, residential, or field depending on assignments and client need.
  • Responsible for treatment oversight of the clients on their caseload.
  • Assists with client program oversight by managing client business passes, privileges, check-in, and treatment compliance.
  • Meets expected client care hours (productivity expectation is 25 client care hours per week). 

Education and Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
 
Education Requirements: 

  • Registration as Substance Abuse Counselor from an approved/accredited California agency.

Experience:

  • Preferably a minimum of two years’ experience in the human service field and demonstrated expertise in substance abuse treatment, relapse prevention, and recovery.
  • Experience working with clients experiencing acute withdrawal from substances.
  • Knowledge of and experience with providing trauma informed services.
  • Experience delivering evidence-based practices.

Background Clearance Required:

  • CDCR fingerprint clearance.
  • Must not be on parole or probation for a minimum of two years.
