JOB SUMMARY

The Medical (Med) Technician (Tech) is either a certified or registered medical assistant who maintains registration from an approved/accredited California agency, or registered substance use disorder professional who maintains registration from an approved/accredited California agency. The Med Tech works in collaboration with other members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure best possible treatment outcome for the client and provide treatment in accordance with HealthRIGHT 360’s philosophy, goals, policies, mission and vision. The Med Tech provides supervision and oversite of the clients and children assigned the detox or behavioral health units with shifts ranging to provide 24/7 coverage. The Med Techs provide facility coverage by supervising the clients during medication line, detox, and free time. The Med Tech is customer service focused and is quick to take the lead in providing crisis intervention and client stabilization. The Med Tech has a high degree of self-awareness and the ability to stay calm under pressure.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Maintains a high degree of self-awareness and the ability to stay calm under pressure.
  2. Assists with assessment and intake of clients entering the detox unit.
  3. Demonstrates strong crisis intervention and client stabilization skills.
  4. Complete detox rounds and behavioral support rounds at 30-minute intervals and documents each round accurately.
  5. Monitors client progress in detox and maintains strong communication with the medical team.
  6. Provides medical crisis intervention and triages clients as needed within scope of practice.
  7. Monitors the medication line and observes client medication self- administration.
  8. Documents client medication self-administration with accuracy.
  9. Works collaboratively with other members of the treatment team and communicates any behavioral concerns to the client’s Case Manager, Clinical Therapist, Counselor, Medical, and Psychiatrist.
  10. Seeks consultation when encountering new and/or high risk medical or clinical circumstance.

 

Clinical Documentation: 

  1. Write and complete all progress notes within 72 hours of service delivery. 
  2. Maintains compliance with due dates for all clinical documentation.
  3. Responsible for completing detox paperwork.
  4. Documentation must maintain in compliance with agency policy and procedures, HIPAA, 42-CFR, DMH, and SAPC standards.
  5. Documents all client UA’s using the UA form and a progress note.
  6. Completes same day incident reports. 
  7. Documents detox rounds and behavioral support rounds every 30 minutes.
  8. Files the documentation of the rounds in accordance with agency policy.

 

Training, Supervision, and Quality Improvement:

  1. Maintains full compliance with Medical Assistant requirements for registration and certification.
  2. Actively participates in agency and team meetings.
  3. Participates in training opportunities.
  4. Communicates collaboratively with all members of the behavioral health team including medical, mental health, psychiatry, substance use disorder, and other staff.
  5. Completes all assigned trainings and Relias trainings in a timely manner.

 

Professionalism and Other Duties:

  1. Arrange work schedule in accordance with the agency’s needs.
  2. Responds to Lead Med Techs coordination of facility needs.
  3. Attend regular staff meetings and other meetings as assigned.
  4. Reads emails daily and responds when appropriate. 
  5. Transports clients as needed.
  6. Conducts random and planned room searches primarily in the detox and behavioral health units.
  7. Completes random and scheduled client UA tests and documents test results.

Education and Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Education Requirements:

  • Registration or Certification as Medical Assistant from an approved/accredited California agency, or Registration as Substance Abuse Counselor from an approved/accredited California agency.

Experience:

  • Preferably a minimum of two years’ experience in the human service field and demonstrated expertise in substance abuse treatment, relapse prevention, and recovery.
  • Experience working with clients experiencing acute withdrawal from substances.
  • Knowledge of and experience with providing trauma informed services.
  • Experience working successfully with issues of substance abuse, mental health, criminal background, and other potential barriers to economic self sufficiency.

Background Clearance Required:

  • Department of Justice background clearance.
  • Must complete background check and livescan
