Clinical Therapist (AARS Adult SUDS)

Outpatient programs provide trauma-informed care aimed at reducing the harmful impacts of substance use. Participants and their counselors work collaboratively to design an integrated, individualized, strengths-based treatment experience geared towards addressing each client’s specific needs and goals. Outpatient programs provide Individual and group therapy, individualized case management, treatment planning, drug and alcohol counseling, crisis intervention, and connection to social support services.

The AARS Adult outpatient substance uses treatment program (ASATS) specializes in providing culturally responsive services in several threshold languages like Vietnamese, Spanish, Ilocano, and Mandarin. ASATS provides individual counseling and an array of counseling groups that focuses on specific challenges like co-occurring disorders, criminal-justice impact, and many more.
Hours of operation are Mondays and Fridays from 9:00AM to 6:00pm; Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 9:00AM to 8:00PM.
The Clinical Therapist I/II/III is a BBS Registered or Licensed individual who provides mental health services including substance use individual and group therapy based on individualized assessments. The intensity of services is based on the client's stage of change and response to treatment. The Clinical Therapist may be expected, but not limited to providing services to Medi-care clients, sign-off on medical necessity for non-licensed staff, provide additional clinical support for trainings, provide support for interns, participate in supervision and in licensed specific trainings. Depending on program requirements, the Clinical Therapist provides after-hours crisis line support on a rotating basis.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Individual Treatment Responsibilities
- Facilitates intakes, comprehensive assessments, individualized treatment planning, crisis, case management and individual counseling sessions with clients.
- Provides learning experience opportunities and offers clinical support to assist clients in meeting their treatment goals.
- Proactively links clients to both internal and external resources based on their treatment needs and follows up on the progress/status.
Treatment Setting Responsibilities
- Facilitates group counseling and education sessions as appropriate.
- May conduct community outreach and education workshops.
- Performs crisis intervention, works with treatment team to stabilize crisis situations and collaborates with Case Manager on ancillary resources for clients.
- Attends required trainings and meetings.
- Plans and facilitates client celebrations and special events.
- May be asked to work on a weekend or during after-hours for crisis stabilization, community education, resource fairs, and special events.
Documentation Responsibilities
- Collaborate with each caseload client and other available internal and external resources to develop/maintain treatment plans, transition plans, progress notes and appropriate updates in support of the health and recovery needs of the client.
- Properly document all individual and group counseling sessions, attempts to contact, and complete the discharge paperwork/process and required agency assessments in timely manner.
- Maintain accurate records by data entering documentation into various electronic systems for all caseload clients in accordance with guidelines established by HealthRIGHT 360 to satisfy internal and external evaluating requirements.
- Participate in Peer Chart/ Utilization Reviews for preparation of program audits. Will adhere to documentation policies and procedures set forth by Compliance Department.
- Be responsive and pro-active in all correspondences with referring parties such as behavioral health providers, probation, social workers, and the Quality Improvement Dept. via treatment status reports, phone calls, faxes, etc.
- Provide informed, written status reports to the above entities as appropriate.
- Assist in providing written progress reports/narratives to Clinical Program Manager or Directors as requested.
Productivity and Coverage Responsibilities:
- Must achieve 50% of service delivery goals while delivering high-quality care and services.
- May be required to meet service delivery goals at other Santa Clara County Behavioral Health programs.
- Ensures coverage during absences or unplanned events by coordinating with team members and management.
- Adjusts workload as necessary to ensure uninterrupted service delivery, including stepping in to provide support during peak demand times or staff shortages.
- Adheres to the program’s scheduling protocols to maintain appropriate client-to-provider ratios.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Certification, and Experience
- Master’s degree in counseling, social work, or related field.
- Current Behavioral Board of Sciences (BBS) registration or license from an accredited institution recognized in California
- Will also consider candidates who are SUD registered or certified
- First Aid Certified within 30 days of employment.
- CPR Certified within 30 days of employment.
- Valid California driver’s license.
- A minimum of 1-3 years of therapist experience preferred.
- Experience with substance abuse treatment preferred.
- Experience working with criminal justice population preferred.
- Experience working within the Santa Clara County –Department of Behavioral Health Services system preferred.
Background Clearance
- Completion of a background check and livescan required
Knowledge
- Knowledge of mental health and trauma informed treatment.
- Knowledge of cultural stigmas of counseling and treatment services.
- Knowledge of principles and techniques of the healing arts, case management, crisis intervention, client centered counseling, and group facilitation.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, specifically Word Outlook and internet applications.
- Knowledge and experience with Medi-CAL documentation standards preferred.
- Knowledge of substance abuse recovery principles and resources; including Co-occurring disorders preferred.
