SUD Counselor - Prototypes Adult DMC Outpatient

POSITION OVERVIEW
We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Counselor to join our team at Prototypes’ Outpatient Behavioral Health Centers. In this role, you will provide counseling and support to individuals facing substance use challenges, helping them navigate their recovery journey. The centers provide comprehensive mental health services for men, women, and children, ranging from prevention and early intervention to intensive services for those with more serious or chronic conditions. Staff provide services both at Prototypes and in the community, including individual, group, and family therapy, psychiatric treatment, medication management, medication-assisted therapies, case management, and referrals to primary care clinics.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Client Engagement and Treatment:
- Participate in scheduling and initial assessments/intakes, fostering a welcoming environment.
- Maintain an assigned caseload of clients, providing individual and group counseling sessions.
- Facilitate various group sessions, including process groups, psychoeducational groups, relapse prevention, and 12-step programs.
- Develop individualized service/treatment plans with measurable goals and objectives.
- Conduct regular follow-ups to ensure adherence to treatment plans.
- Perform crisis intervention and communicate with the treatment team as needed.
- Provide case management services addressing clients' psychosocial needs (housing, employment, legal, health).
- Assist in planning and implementing drug-free recreational activities and events for clients and their families.
- Support community outreach efforts, referrals, and client follow-ups.
Documentation and Compliance:
- Maintain confidential client records and prepare progress reports in a timely manner.
- Accurately enter data into various electronic systems in accordance with HealthRight 360 guidelines.
Administrative:
- Establish community relations and linkages with other service providers and organizations.
- Actively participate in clinical supervision, case conferences, and treatment team reviews.
- Attend meetings and engage in collaborative discussions.
- Complete assigned training on time and meet service delivery goals.
- Read and respond to communications promptly.
- Ensure compliance with registration requirements.
- Assist in onboarding and mentoring new staff, interns, or volunteers.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or a related field preferred.
- Registration or Certification as a Substance Use Disorder Counselor (CAADE, CADTP, CCAPP).
- Experience in counseling individuals with substance use disorders.
- Strong knowledge of treatment modalities and recovery resources.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
- Compassionate, non-judgmental approach to client care.
- Commitment to confidentiality and ethical standards.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

- Ability to sit for extended periods while conducting counseling sessions.
- Capacity to stand and move about during group activities and community outreach.
- Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 25 lbs as needed for events and activities.
- Adequate vision and hearing to effectively communicate with clients and staff.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Qualified candidates with a criminal record will be considered for employment.
- Must be capable of meeting health screening and tuberculosis testing requirements.
- Must be capable of maintaining credential requirements.
- Must be capable of meeting the program and SAPC requirements.
- Must be capable of obtaining first aid and CPR certifications within 30 days of hire.
