Job Overview
This is a union position.
The Childcare Specialist will be a member of the Family Wellness Center Team, working with children and families in a community mental health setting. The primary goal of this position to provide child monitoring and support mental health treatment practice and integration. Services will be provided as scheduled, primarily in the office setting.
As a part of the Family Wellness Center team, the Child monitoring specialist supervises assigned child clients and employs developmentally appropriate practices and activities. Guides clients in the practice and integration of treatment goals. Consults with team members and child caregivers on engagements and observations of children served.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide culturally enriching and age-appropriate developmental activities/oversight to assigned children, role models appropriate care while maintaining a calm and encouraging presence.
- Direct appropriate interactions/conversations between assigned clients.
- Ensure that clients are following proper safety precautions with children.
- Document observations and concerns. Communicate observations and concerns to the team with feedback on goals and objectives for parenting portion of the treatment plan.
- Educate clients on developmental milestones.
- Educate and support mothers in providing structure and safety for children.
- Develop daily activities and schedule for the children, using culturally enriching and age-appropriate activities.
- Documents child injuries or unusual occurrence with incident reports and promptly communicates with the child's caregiver.
- Ensures all children are properly signed in and signed out of childcare.

- Provide administrative support when necessary, including coverage for front desk depending on staff schedule.
- Provide hygiene support environment based on the needs of the program, (i.e. cleaning, sanitizing children's toys, materials, spaces)
Education and Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Education, Certification, and Experience Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent, AA preferred.
- Experience working with children and their parents.
- First Aid certified within 30 days of employment.
- CPR certified within 30 days of employment.
- Experience with supervision, receiving instructions/feedback, coaching/counseling and/or action/discipline.
- Dependable automobile and insurance, registration, and a valid California driver’s license.
Background Clearance:
- Must not be on active parole or probation.
- Ability to obtain and maintain satisfactory background check.
- Ability to obtain and maintain live scan clearance.
Knowledge:
- Knowledge and respect of all confidentiality issues and HIPPA regulations.
- Knowledge of working with substance abuse issues, trauma, and domestic violence.
Skills and Abilities Required:
- Ability to enter data into various electronic systems while maintaining the integrity and accuracy of the data.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, specifically Word Outlook and internet applications.
- Professionalism, punctuality, flexibility, and reliability are imperative.
