Henderson Engineers is seeking a Strategic Consulting Project Director to join our team. The Strategic Consulting Project Director will lead high-impact, complex consulting projects that drive innovation and strategic decision-making for clients across various industries. They are responsible for overseeing the entire lifecycle of consulting engagements, from client identification, pursuit positioning, initial project scoping to final delivery. The Strategic Consulting Project Director will collaborate closely with senior executives and stakeholders to solve complex business challenges, optimize operations, and execute strategies that lead to sustainable growth and transformation. They are a visionary leader that balances big-picture strategic thinking with meticulous execution, delivering measurable outcomes that align with clients' long-term goals.

 

Minimum Qualifications for the Role are:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Architecture, Mechanical engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, Building Science or closely related field required. (Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree.)
  • 10-15 years of relevant consulting engineering experience required.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience effectively leading or managing small teams, including planning/structuring analytical work, facilitating team and client workshops, and developing strategy recommendations is required.
  • Experience managing budgets and forecasting activities and building financial proposals.
  • Demonstrated experience building trusted relationships with senior leaders at client organizations.
  • Proven ability to manage project finances, resources, and risks, ensuring that projects are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Extensive knowledge of building design, construction processes, and/or building operation.
  • Demonstrated ability to accurately interpret complex information and make strategic recommendations to guide decision-making by identifying anticipated benefits, consequences and impacts of alternative system options.
  • Top-notch presentation and interpersonal skills that resonate with audiences of different backgrounds.
  • Ability to communicate persuasively, concisely, and unambiguously in speech and in writing.
  • Proven excellence in leading project delivery including delivering on-time, on-budget and achieving high levels of internal and external customer satisfaction in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong drive to maintain updated knowledge of existing and evolving building sustainability, operational technology and general building systems design concepts.
  • Skilled in translating high level client business objectives into stakeholder responsibilities across building portfolio relevance.
  • Self-starter with demonstrated ability to carry complex projects from concept to implementation, use creative thinking to solve problems, and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Track record of strong collaborations including knowledge sharing of experience and information.
  • Experience managing complex analytical projects which engage in-house experts and staff, external consultant teams and external industry experts and stakeholders.
  • Experience working in a team environment both as a team leader and active team member.
  • Ability to work in a challenging environment, managing multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in all core competencies as described and characterized in this job description.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience publishing thought leadership, presenting at conferences, or serving as a subject matter expert highly preferred.
  • Experience across multiple industry sectors preferred

  • Prolonged periods of sitting or standing at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
  • 15% travel required.

 

Skills and Duties you will be Responsible for while in this role:

Project Strategy & Execution:

  • Participate in annual internal business planning and strategy sessions to set growth goals.
  • Define and implement strategies for consulting services that align with business objectives and industry best practices.
  • Develop and enforce innovative processes and standards related to consulting services, ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and corporate guidelines.
  • Collaborate with sector and organizational leadership to align consulting approaches with company-wide strategies and initiatives.
  • Conduct in-depth analysis to uncover opportunities for improvement and develop strategic recommendations for clients.
  • Lead and direct multi-disciplinary consulting teams through all project phases, ensuring that engagements are delivered on time, within scope, and aligned with client objectives.

 

Client Relationship Management:

 

  • Understand clients' business environments, challenges, and strategic priorities to craft tailored solutions that align with their goals and drive long-term value.
  • Partner with sector and practice leadership to develop quality and client satisfaction strategies and metrics.
  • Partner with sector project managers to create and maintain client communication strategies that deliver a consistent client experience.
  • Assist in resolving conflicts involving clients, architects, contractors, and facility managers related to operational technology matters.
  • Align technical execution to streamline client experience and maximize client satisfaction.

 

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Collaborate with key stakeholders, including c-suite executives and operational leaders, to facilitate strategic discussions, gather insights, and ensure alignment throughout the consulting process.
  • Oversee the identification and quantification of problems experienced by building operators and owners.
  • Advise clients on data-driven strategies to transform their business operations so they can meet and exceed their strategic and operational goals.
  • Translate client business objectives into clear potential engineering solutions that bridge the gap between client outcome expectations and purely technical advice.
  • Educate internal teams on the clients’ industry and business objectives in the context of their building portfolio.
  • Lead project delivery to pinpoint the right solution to make sure clients are positioned for long-term success with practical road maps for conducting facility strategies, managing change, monitoring, and gauging processes, and taking remedial steps.
  • Earn the trust of senior leaders at client organizations and partner with them to create strategic solutions at the intersection of business, sustainability, operational technology, safety and resilience and facility operations.
  • Promote, educate, and consult on the integration of intelligent building systems to enhance overall building performance and client value.
  • Evaluate, validate and select appropriate vendor platforms and tools that meet solution needs.

 

Business Operations:

  • Use a data-driven approach to solve complex business problems, leveraging qualitative and quantitative insights.
  • Anticipate and manage potential risks, proactively addressing challenges to keep projects on track.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory and contractual obligations across consulting engagements.
  • Drive process improvements and best practices within the consulting practice.
  • Develop methodologies, frameworks, and tools that enhance the team’s ability to deliver value to clients.
  • Assist leadership in executing the financial strategy to meet financial and performance metrics.
  • Assist with staffing coordination efforts including cross-sector staff sharing to ensure proper bandwidth and profitability targets are met.
  • Oversee project budgets, timelines, and resources to ensure profitability and operational efficiency.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and deliver regular progress reports to clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Lead and mentor cross-functional consulting teams, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence.
  • Provide guidance and feedback to team members, ensuring high-quality outputs across all project phases.

 

Business Development:

  • Leverage opportunities and relationships internally across Henderson Companies and externally across the industry to develop business growth.
  • Lead the development, establishment, and maintenance of relationships with strategic partners and customers in support of and to expand business opportunities.
  • Participate in client, company and/or industry events to build and maintain professional relationships.
  • Identify new business opportunities and help grow the consulting practice by expanding relationships with existing clients and attracting new ones.
  • Contribute to proposals, presentations, and negotiations to secure future consulting engagements.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage technical strengths in pursuit of new work to ensure a competitive market position.
  • Contribute to strategic decisions involving technical expertise and development needs in response to current and future industry demands.

 

Thought Leadership:

  • Stay ahead of industry trends around sustainability, decarbonization and emerging operational technologies to provide clients with cost effective, forward-looking advice and resilient, innovative solutions. · Publish thought leadership content and represent the firm at industry events and conferences to elevate the firm’s brand and expertise.
