The Speech and Language Pathologist will conduct assessments, provide recommendations, organize, and implement medically necessary services for youth in San Mateo County with HPSM insurance. This position is primarily in person and co-located at the Tower Street School in San Mateo. 

 

Position overview

  • Process HPSM network referrals and complete the SLP assessment process to identify communicative and speech disorders through screening and testing.
  • Make recommendations and implement an individualized speech and language plan.
  • Prepare, monitor, and document progress on the goals and objectives for HPSM members receiving services.
  • Provide services to members in individualized and/or group setting to express member needs through a communication system appropriate to their functional level.
  • Maintain a collaborative working relationship with school staff, families, HPSM, MTU, CCS, Pediatricians/PCPs, and outside agencies, as applicable.
  • Work collaboratively with classroom staff to ensure IEP goals and objectives are met and services provided are non-duplicative of school services.
  • Complete all required documentation and telephonic member follow-up within HPSM’s EMR within the required timeframes.
  • Complete all required documentation with appropriate diagnosis and CPT coding for encounter submission.
  • Facilitate case conferences or MDT/IDT meetings as needed.
  • Identify any systems or access barriers for members and/or providers.
  • Develop policies and procedures and/or workflows to support process.

 

Secondary Functions:

  • Identify opportunities for continuous process improvement.
  • Monitor, track and report on all work completed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Requirements

These are the qualifications typically needed to succeed in this position. However, you don’t need to meet every requirement to apply. 

Education and experience

  • Master’s degree in speech and language pathology, current, unrestricted SLP licensure in California.
  • Experience working with youth and families.
  • Medi-Cal Credentialed or eligible for enrollment.
  • Experience working with Medi-Cal or other insurance and/or experience working in a multidisciplinary and/or school setting preferred. 
  • Bilingual skills, especially Spanish preferred.

Knowledge of:

  • Knowledge of speech and communicative disorders in order to diagnose and identify required services and develop treatment plan.
  • Current medical terminology, equipment, and techniques.
  • Knowledge of child development including speech and language.
  • Speech and language principles, practices, methods, and strategies.
  • Professional and ethical standards and practices.
  • IEP procedures and requirements.

 

Ability to:

  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with individuals and groups from diverse ethnic, racial, linguistic, and social backgrounds.
  • Train and provide appropriate information to parents, members and care team.
  • Prepare and deliver oral presentations regarding speech and language services.
  • Maintain records and prepare comprehensive reports according to HPSM standards.
  • Read interpret, apply, and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

  • Provide consultation and technical expertise concerning student programs and services.

Salary

The starting salary range is $48.78-$62.66 per hour or per year, depending on the candidate’s work experience.
