ASSISTANT CONTROLLER
SUMMARY
The Assistant Controller is an integral member of the Accounting/Finance team, performs complex accounting functions including fiscal interpretation and analysis requiring full professional competency and contributes by holding primary responsibilities including but not limited to preparing, reporting and accurately maintaining general ledger accounts, sub-ledgers and the financial statements of the Bank, ownership and oversight for all aspects of the adequacy and governance of the allowance for loan and lease losses. In addition, this position supports the CFO in management of the securities portfolio. The Assistant Controller position reports to and works closely with the Controller & Chief Accounting Officer. The Assistant Controller can work independently, will grow, and evolve with changes in the accounting profession, stay abreast of changes affecting financial reporting and apply sound judgment and accounting principles whenever required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Assist the Corporate Controller in all phases of the Company’s accounting and reporting activities.
Serve as the responsible party for the Abrigo model for the Company’s calculation of required reserves under the CECL framework. Present findings to executive management and board of directors as requested. Serve as the subject matter expert and develop a strong relationship with the Abrigo team.
Assist in preparation for the monthly ALCO Committee meetings.
Assist in preparing monthly closing entries for all Holding Company subsidiaries.
Assist with monthly reporting related to the Bank’s real estate investment subsidiary.
Assist in analytical review of Company balance variances on a monthly, quarterly, and yearly basis. Provide explanations for variances that are detailed.
Assist with the quarterly footnote support preparation as directed by the Corporate Controller.
Assist in the preparation of the quarterly financial reports to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) including the management discussion and analysis of the results of operations.
Assist in the preparation of the quarterly Federal Reserve Reports and other Holding company regulatory filings.
Responsible for maintaining controls compliance and certifying to the same for certain SOX financial controls.
Assist in the preparation of the annual report to stockholders, including audited financial statements and management’s discussion and analysis of operations results.
Assist in providing support and respond to questions from auditors and regulators including Federal Reserve, Division of Finance, FDIC, and FHLB.
Responsible for other annual audits including but not limited to HUD, 401K, and pension audits.
Comply with all banking regulations, policies, and procedures.
NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Maintain a level of technical knowledge through participation in educational courses, seminars and through membership in professional and banking organizations.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Possess a four-year college degree from an accredited university or institution with a bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting.
Possess a minimum of at least seven years of professional accounting experience, with a minimum of two years in a financial institution accounting department.
Possess a working knowledge of the preparation of regulatory reports (i.e., call repots), federal and state financial regulations, and banking policies and procedures.
Preference may be given to the individual possessing a Certified Public Accountant’s License (CPA) or an MBA or candidates whose education meets the MO CPA eligibility requirements.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Must have the ability to operate the following equipment: telephone, 10-key calculator, personal computer, printer, copy machine, multi-drawer file cabinet, and fax machine.
Must have working knowledge of spreadsheet, word processing, presentation, and database software programs. Must be proficient in data entry.
Intermediate to advanced computer skills, including Windows-based operating systems and office suites (Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint); spreadsheet applications to organize data used for advanced data analysis; internet; email; and bank software.
KEY CONTACTS--Internal and External
Has frequent contact with all personnel in all areas of the Bank.
Has moderate contact with Bank customers in responding to inquiries as part of the customer service function. Has frequent contact with regulators, outside auditors, various individuals at other financial institutions, and investment brokers.
