Summary Description
The Staff Accountant is responsible for performing many of the day-to-day accounting functions of the Cleveland Browns organization. This role is involved in recording and maintaining financial transactions, including accounts payable and receivable, by preparing journal entries, reconciling bank statements, and ensuring the accuracy of the general ledger, ultimately contributing to the production of financial statements and supporting the overall financial health of a company. This role involves supporting the accounting department in maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, a solid understanding of accounting principles, and the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Reconcile bank statements to the general ledger.
- Process manual electronic vendor payments.
- Maintain ticketing system entries and accounts receivable records.
- Assist with quarter-end and year-end closing procedures.
Prepare and assist with the preparation of working papers for audit purposes.
- Assist with the annual external financial statement audit engagement.
- Assist with the compilation of NFL annual reporting requirements.
- Manage Government reporting
- Assist the Vice President, Finance in establishing accounting policies and procedures to improve organizational efficiency and internal controls.
- Work closely with the Vice President, Finance to monitor and implement new accounting standards to ensure that the organization is GAAP compliant.
Required Experience & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 1-3 years’ experience in accounting and/or finance.
- Strong work ethic and analytical skills are a must. Excellent communication skills are required as this person will deal with all levels of internal personnel, external auditors, outside partners, League personnel and other various Finance associates.
- Ability to exhibit proper discretion in dealing with highly sensitive and confidential information is a must.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills and ability to work with all levels of staff and outside vendors. Proficient with Excel. Prior Great Plains, Arctics, Chase Payment Tech, American Express and Ticket Master Programs experience is preferred.
