$17.39 - $20.70 PER HOUR

GENERAL PURPOSE:

The purpose of this position is to maintain quality standards and product levels of all pastry and cake products in the bakery in addition to training other pastry and cake associates. This person will be preparing, cooking, mixing, baking, assembling, packaging, labeling, and decorating cakes and pastries; ordering, receiving, and storing product, determining production and inventory levels, and providing exceptional customer service.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Follows established departmental and store policies and procedures
  • Ensures the quality and freshness of all products and services the bakery provides
  • Responsible for maintaining the appropriate product assortment and inventory levels for the bakery
  • Confirms pricing accuracy and signage for all products, paying particular attention to ad items
  • Ensures the bakery is cleaned and sanitized daily and meets the company standards for appearance
  • Delivers excellent customer service to all customers
  • Follows production sheets to ensure appropriate inventory levels of Harmons’ pastries and cakes
  • Ensures the correct amount of ingredients and supplies are in stock
  • Minimizes waste by ordering and storing ingredients correctly, being mindful of out-of-code dates, and rotating product
  • Prepares, cooks, bakes, assembles, and decorates pastries for sale and to keep as back-stock
  • Bakes and decorates cakes for sale and for custom orders
  • Makes frosting to be used for cake decorating
  • Writes production sheets for other pastry chefs and cake decorators
  • Assists with test and quarterly inventory
  • Teaches, mentors, and educates associates to help them be successful members of the team
  • Provides honest, direct, and constant feedback to artisan bakers regarding their performance and areas of improvement
  • Writes the schedule for cake and pastry associates
  • Communicates openly and frequently with Store Director, Bakery Manager, Cake and Pastry Merchandiser, and Director of Fresh Bakery

MARGINIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Desired knowledge, skills, and abilities:

A high school diploma or GED preferred; one year of bakery experience preferred; or any combination of education, experience, and training which provides the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Current Food Handler’s Permit
  • Experience decorating cakes quickly and efficiently with quality professional results
  • Experience preparing pastries quickly and efficiently with quality professional results
  • Ability to read and follow a recipe
  • Basic math skills used to half or double recipes
  • Enjoys working with, handling, and eating cake and pastry products
  • Knowledge of mixing, cooking, baking, and assembling procedures and times for pastries
  • Ability to interpret policies and procedures
  • Excellent organization and planning skills
  • Must possess solid communication skills, including verbal and listening skills in order to effectively and efficiently communicate with customers and fellow associates
  • Ability to professionally and appropriately handle conflict
  • Must possess the ability to accept constructive review and be accountable for one’s own success as well as the success of your team
  • Required to make logical, significant decisions using general, recognized skills and techniques
  • Must possess integrity, a positive attitude, be mission-driven, and be self-directed with a demonstrated passion for Harmons’ mission and commitment to working collaboratively

Work is generally performed in a safe and comfortable store environment with the possibility of frequent exposure to hot, cold, sticky, slippery, and wet conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to grasp, push, pull, carry, stoop, stir, twist, crouch, and reach; perform tasks requiring repetitive motion and eye, hand, and foot coordination; hear and respond to customer inquiries. Also requires standing, walking, climbing, and bending throughout the entire workday and the ability to maneuver heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds from location to location.
