Forensic Accident Reconstruction Engineer
H2M architects + engineers, a multidiscipline architectural, engineering, environmental consulting firm, seeks a Forensic Accident Engineer for our Melville, NY office location. We seek a dynamic engineer to provide expert forensic analysis on residential, commercial and roadway accident cases. In addition to technical expertise on assignments, the ideal candidate will assist with developing and maintaining important business relationships throughout the industry.
Job Responsibilities:
- Work assignments will include conducting forensic investigations and reporting in the following engineering areas:
- Building/Construction related accidents
- Roadway related accidents
- Trip and Falls
- Conduct commercial and residential forensic investigations to analyze and determine the cause, origin, and extent of defects for insurance companies, attorneys, property owners and plaintiffs.
- Conduct roadway accident forensic investigations to analyze and determine the cause, origin, and extent of defects for both plaintiffs and defendants.
- Research technical publications and literature in support of evaluations and apply engineering principles and practices in accordance with codes and industry standards.
- Prepare expert forensic reports summarizing findings, using accepted engineering principles; prepare for EBT’s, and trial testimony.
- Communicate with staff and clients to provide timelines and project updates on a consistent basis.
Education/Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or closely related discipline, a plus.
- Professional Engineer [P.E.] license, a plus.
- Min 5-7 years forensic investigation/accident/trip and fall experience required.
- Must have prior experience writing technical and inspection reports.
- Demonstrated knowledge of industry-wide, accepted, engineering standards including building/fire codes, and commercial and residential liability.
- Ability to read and understand contracts and building plans.
- Experience working with law firms and insurance companies preferred.
- Deposition and expert testimony experience highly desirable.
- Manage multiple projects and assume responsibility for project execution within required timeframes.
- Ability to perform various field inspections, which includes the ability to inspect property and roadway sites, including vehicle inspections.
- Requires strong analytical skills.
- Must be highly motivated and utilize independent judgement in solving client/technical problems.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with clients and team.
- Ability to use own car to travel to job sites – valid driver’s license required.
- Some occasional overnight travel may be required.
The salary range for this role is $80,000 - $120,000 annually.
