Part-time 0.80 FTE / 32 hours per week position with a two-week schedule rotation. PM and Weekend shift differentials applicable.
This position is eligible for a $3000 SIGN ON BONUS for joining GHC!

The Medical Lab Technician (MLT) – Registered is responsible for performing laboratory procedures as ordered by a provider. Medical Lab Technicians work as generalists in the areas of: Chemistry, Hematology and Urinalysis. Responsibilities include performance of lab tests from all Group Health Cooperative of South-Central Wisconsin (GHC-SCW) locations in any or all departments; performance of quality control, troubleshooting, and maintenance functions; collection of specimens; and other tasks as assigned. This position is also responsible for provision of technical support to providers, and other GHC-SCW internal staff. The MLT works under the general supervision and guidance of the Medical Laboratory Manager, Chief Medical Technologist, and/or Medical Technologist - Lead.
Job Specific Minimum Qualifications
- Associate degree from an accredited technical college or school in Medical Laboratory Technology or Medical Laboratory Science required; or qualified under 42 CFR 493.1433 which was published on 3/14/90. Foreign education credentials must be evaluated by a National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) or Association of International Credential Evaluators (AICE) member. The U.S. equivalency summary must indicate that the level of education is equivalent to an Associate degree or higher.
- Valid certification from the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT) as a Medical Lab Technician is required.
- Possession of or eligibility for a valid Healthcare Provider CPR/AED certificate is required. Employee must obtain certification within four (4) months of employment.
- Knowledge of current laboratory safety and hygiene protocols is required.
- Knowledge and ability to accurately perform tests are required.
- Knowledge of quality control testing procedures and practices is required.
- Ability to perform troubleshooting on laboratory equipment is required.
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision is required.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required. Excellent customer service skills are required. Ability to be culturally sensitive and work with a diverse patient population is required.
- Knowledge of and/or ability to learn and use computer-based applications such as MS Office, electronic medical record systems and laboratory related applications is required. Experience with EPIC is desirable.
- Good organizational skills are required.
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality is required. Knowledge of or ability to learn HIPAA requirements.
- Ability to work at other GHC-SCW clinic sites assuring adequate coverage is required. Ability to provide own transportation to various work locations is required.
- Compliance with Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act (CLIA) for September 1, 1997, is required.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk and do moderate lifting up to 10 lbs. on a frequent basis is required.
- Correctable vision, color perception, and legible handwriting are required.
- Manual dexterity in order to handle laboratory equipment is required.
- Ability to work fingers for various manipulation activities including keyboarding is required.
- Ability to operate a PC and other computer peripheral equipment is required.
