Governance, Risk, and Compliance - HIPAA and Privacy Coordinator
BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The HIPAA Coordinator is responsible for ensuring compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations and related privacy and security laws. This role involves monitoring, implementing, and maintaining the organization’s privacy and security program while assisting with incident investigations and breach response, including the development of policies and procedures, training staff, and conducting regular audits. The Coordinator will serve as a key contact for HIPAA-related inquiries and work collaboratively across departments to safeguard patient health information (PHI).
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, Business, or a related field. Equivalent experience may be considered.
- Two (2) years of experience in a healthcare compliance, privacy, or HIPAA-related role.
- Comprehensive knowledge of HIPAA regulations and best practices for maintaining privacy and security of PHI.
- Experience with risk assessments, incident response, and breach notification requirements.
- Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and data security measures.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to train and educate diverse audiences.
- High level of discretion and ability to handle confidential information.
