 Quality Control Inspector

 

JOB DIMENSIONS:

 

Job Summary:

Under general supervision, performs receiving, in-process, and final inspection of raw materials, finished machined parts, and assemblies, ensuring conformance with engineering documents, government and commercial standards, customer requirements, and company quality guidelines; calibrates and uses precision measuring instruments; and performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Reports to:

Inspection Supervisor.

 

Examples of Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs inspection of raw materials and castings as well as finished parts from vendors;
  • Conducts first-article inspection of pre-production items from vendors;
  • Examines first-piece machined parts during various processes after acceptance by Machinist and Lead Worker, and perform rechecks throughout production run;
  • Inspects clean, completed parts before release to stockrooms;
  • Verifies correct assembly of valves and controls, and determine that all required tests are performed;
  • Analyzes customer requirements for finished products and spare parts to assure all steps are completed before shipment, including special packaging and marking;
  • Verifies all measuring instruments are calibrated at recall periods or when accuracy is questioned;
  • Performs dimensional inspections using precision measuring instruments such as pressure, threaded ring and plug, bar, height gages, calipers, micrometers, optical comparator, and surface plate work;
  • Compares measurement results to Engineering drawings to determine acceptability for use;
  • Prepares Reject Reports for items not in conformance with quality standards;
  • Completes all records of inspections and vendor performance;
  • Verifies that all work records from machine shop, assembly, and vendors are complete and correct, checking against established Engineering and Inspection standards, and that current revisions have been followed;
  • Works with production personnel to assure priority items are handled first;
  • Regular punctuality, attendance, and absence reporting in conformance with company policies is essential to the successful performance of this position; and
  • Fully complies with company rules, policies, procedures, and safety guidelines to ensure safe and effective operations.

 

QUALIFICATIONS GUIDELINES:

Any combination equivalent of, but not limited to, the following:

 

Experience/Training/Education:

Considerable experience, training, and/or certification in machining or inspection techniques and procedures, preferably within a manufacturing environment.

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of machine shop and inspection practices;
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and work specifications;
  • Knowledge of applicable military and commercial standards;
  • Ability to use standard precision measuring instruments to check linear, angular and configuration of raw, in-process, and completed parts to tolerances of .0001";
  • Ability to complete assignments with minimum supervision;
  • Some knowledge of hydraulics and assembly practices;
  • Ability to communicate and work cooperatively with others; and
  • Ability to tactfully and effectively attain adherence to quality control standards and practices.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time;
  • Ability to crouch, bend, and reach materials to inspect large items;
  • Must be able to move into confined areas to check specified items in machine shop;
  • Ability to lift and move materials weighing 25 pounds or less;
  • Ability to move heavier objects with the assistance of co-workers or mechanical devices;
  • Manual dexterity may be required to rotate and inspect small components and materials; and
  • Ability to perform essential functions of the job, as defined;

The pay range represents the low and high end of the salary range we reasonably expect to pay for this position at the time of posting. An employee’s pay position within the salary range will be based on several factors, including, but not limited to, geographic location, experience, education, skills, qualifications, performance, and business or organizational needs.
