Job Summary: The research services associate provides husbandry, facility and basic research support for the conduct of non-clinical studies.
Essential Functions:
- Follow and understand standard operating procedures, protocols, PharmOptima policies, and good documentation/laboratory practices.
- Perform various husbandry procedures, including but not limited to cleaning and sanitizing of vivarium space/cages/racks/equipment, operating cage washers, providing enrichment to animals, changing animal bedding, receiving/distributing deliveries, preparing shipments, and performing miscellaneous maintenance and custodial duties.
- Monitors and documents in vivo environmental conditions.
- Monitors animal health of various species.
- Feeding and watering animals.
- Monitors animal health of various species.
- May assist in the performance and documentation of dosing administration, blood collection, euthanasia, and tissue collections, including specialty tissue collections and tissue homogenization.
- May assist in the performance and documentation of clinical observations of animals.
- May assist in the performance of administrative duties such as data collection setup, collection tube setup, and data entry.
- Uses various equipment to carry out job responsibilities.
Job Qualifications: General Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) required
- Exceptional written and oral communication and organizational skills.
- Must be able to come in contact with a variety of animal species.
- Ability to work weekends and holidays as required.
Physical Demands: Physical, Mental and workplace Environment Conditions
- Attention to detail regarding safety and accuracy of procedures performed.
- Ability to withstand repeated bending, stooping, and lifting.
- May be exposed to animal allergens, blood, fluid, and excreta.
- Must be able to work with laboratory chemicals and reagents.
- Ability to push, pull, or lift 50 pounds.
Working Conditions: Workplace Environment Conditions
- Position functions are performed in an office and laboratory environment.
Education and Experience:
- H.S. diploma.
- 1+ years of experience in animal care setting and/or equivalent work experience preferred.
- Knowledge of animal husbandry guidelines to ensure adherence to standards set by USDA and AAALAC established protocols and procedures preferred.
- Experience in husbandry procedures including changing cages, feeding/watering, monitoring/observing, assessing health, maintaining daily room check logs, and recording environmental conditions preferred.
- Experience with good documentation and laboratory practices preferred.
- Experience in an accredited animal care facility and GLP compliance preferred.
