GED Instructor
Summary |
The GED Instructor is responsible for assisting students prepare for the GED test, which is equivalent to a high school diploma. This role involves planning and delivering lessons in subjects like math, science, social studies, and language arts, assessing and monitoring student progress, and providing individualized support and test preparation strategies. This role will also handle administrative tasks such as record-keeping and stay updated on changes to the GED test.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities |
- Teach subjects included in the GED test, such as mathematics, science, social studies, and language arts
- Evaluate students’ academic strengths and weaknesses through assessments and tailor instruction to different learning abilities and educational needs of each student
- Track students’ progress and provide constructive feedback
- Assist students with test-taking strategies and time management skills
- Offer one-on-one tutoring and support to students who need extra help
- Keep accurate records of attendance, grades, scores, and other required documentation
- Develop and distribute educational materials and resources to support students
- Lead group discussions and activities to foster a collaborative and supportive learning environment
- Address any conflicts or issues that arise among students, ensuring a positive and productive atmosphere
- Stay updated on the latest educational techniques and tools and incorporate them into lesson plans accordingly
- Provide academic and career counseling to students, helping them set and achieve their educational goals
- Submits monthly accruals to finance and maintains accurate support documentation
- Conducts scheduled meetings with staff to discuss problem areas
- Other duties may be assigned.
- Complies with all Agency policies, procedures, and safety standards throughout work areas and maintains same to meet CARF, HIPAA, Department of Labor and other regulatory standards.

Education Requirements |
Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field. Valid Ohio teaching certificate or license or active adult education permit preferred.
Experience Requirements |
Previous experience teaching adult learners or teaching high school subjects, especially those covered in the GED test (math, science, social studies, and language arts). Experience in developing educational materials and lesson plans tailored to diverse learning styles. Experience in preparing students for standardized tests, including test-taking strategies and managing test anxiety. Strong communication and organizational skills, ability to manage group dynamics, and proficiency in using educational technology; strong computer skills Empathy, patience, and a passion for education and helping others succeed.
